Overview

When you control minds, only your heart can be used against you.

Eight months ago, Kira Moore revealed to the mindreading world that mindjackers like herself were hidden in their midst. Now she wonders if telling the truth was the right choice after all. As wild rumors spread, a powerful anti-jacker politician capitalizes on mindreaders' fears and strips jackers of their rights. While some jackers flee to Jackertown-a slum rife with jackworkers who trade mind control favors for cash-Kira and her family hide from the readers who fear her and jackers who hate her. But when a jacker Clan member makes Kira's boyfriend Raf collapse in her arms, Kira is forced to save the people she loves by facing the thing she fears most: FBI agent Kestrel and his experimental torture chamber for jackers.

Meet the Author

Susan Kaye Quinn grew up in California, where she wrote snippets of stories and passed them to her friends during class. She pursued a bunch of engineering degrees and worked a lot of geeky jobs, including turns at GE Aircraft Engines, NASA, and NCAR. Now that she writes novels, her business card says "Author and Rocket Scientist" and she doesn't have to sneak her notes anymore. All that engineering comes in handy when dreaming up paranormal powers in future worlds or mixing science with fantasy to conjure slightly plausible inventions. Susan writes from the Chicago suburbs with her three boys, two cats, and one husband. Which, it turns out, is exactly as much as she can handle. I have contacted tech support twice for them to fix this book. They said the publishers had to fix it. It was supposed to be fixed within a week to 10 days. It has now been 3 weeks and not one word. So i have 2 books i paid for that i can't read. #2 and 3 . Can't read 3 if i haven't read 2. Very disappointed!!!!!

Doed anyone know why this book didn't load properly? I only got 1/1 even after archiving and reloading a few times. I plan on contacting B&N in the morning. This is ridiculous!!!

First let me say, I thoroughly enjoyed the first book in the series, and gave it five stars. But now that it comes time to rate the second book, I'm stuck. Because I LOVED IT EVEN MORE! I can't give it six stars so I guess I'll just have to settle for five again. The world that Quinn created is rich and full of life. I have no trouble imagining this as a potential future and felt like I was right there with Kira as she struggled to save the ones she loves. I am seriously looking forward to what Quinn comes up with for book three!

This is an awesome continuation of the Mindjack Trilogy. Kira is dealing with the aftermath of the decisions she made in book one and the backlash that came with that decision. She is hated by both jackers and mindreaders and the government is after her. She is captured, tortured and she suffers so much in this book. She makes a lot of bad decisions and she trusts too easily that promises made to her will be kept. She is foreced to do things that she doesn't want to do. We are introduced to Julian in this book and I must say I really like him. He is smart, strong, sensitive and a very good leader. This is a wonderful book.

Where Open Minds had captured my hidden scientist and my closet conspiracy theorist, Closed Hearts was just pure genius! The second book broadens the horizons of the series, giving more insight on the abilities of the mindjacking world. There are new talents and levels of skill, such as 'keepers,' whose mind barriers are too strong to penetrate, or 'scribes,' who can completely rewrite a person’s personality (scary, yet intriguing). This variety added a lot of flavor to the pages and really expanded on what a single mind can do. I must say, however, I was every disappointed with one thing, and that would be Raf. I had really liked his character from Mind Games and Open Minds. He was sweet, and though he’s just a reader, I had originally thought him as the perfect match for Kira. But that all seemed to change by the end. Of course, after reading Closed Hearts, I actually have higher hopes for Julian now, another mindjacker. He was amazing! Like it would be hard not to like the guy if you met him in real life! He had a great personality, a strategic mind, powerful passion, and a description which kept bringing Jon Huertas to mind – back when he was Brad Alcerro on Sabrina the Teenage Witch. So yeah, I’m hooked on the guy. Anyway, I guess I'll have to wait and see where the plot leads, but I can definitely say I’m totally wrapped up in this series! I would highly recommend it!

Havent read it yet but saw some reviews stating that when they purchased the book it only contained the cover. I just bought it and now has 200+ pages. So excited to start reading! :)

Do not buy if you are purchasing from your nook! You only get 1 page and it's the cover. Can not believe I just spent 3 bucks on a cover. I am contacting the author and B&N about this!

If you read the first one, this is a great sequel. I like how they actually have an ending instead of leaving you hanging.

I really tried to like this book, but it was just not for me. I normally finish a series when I start one, but in this case that won't be happening. Kira the main character was just too weak. Even though she is young after everything she had gone through or was faced with it should have made her stronger not weaker.

Talk about tense! I chewed my fingernails down to nubs, and I don't even bite my nails. I loved the depth of the new characters she introduced, and seeing the growth and change in Kira. An excellent follow up to Open Minds. She really threw me for a loop (read BROKE MY HEART and made me curse her under my breath) with the ending. Can't wait to sink my teeth into Free Souls to see how it all works out.
