Parlez-vous franÁais, Clovis Crawfish? Mais oui!

Echo Gecko is the shy new lizard in the Louisiana swamp. She has a habit of repeating everything she hears, thatís how she got her nickname. All little Echo really wants is to learn how to speak French.

All Clovis Crawfish wants is a nap. But Clovis loves to help his friends--if he can save Christophe Cricket from the ornery Mísieu Blue Jay, he certainly can teach little Echo some French. Her lessons go well until Echo turns up missing after a summer rainstorm. Did Mísieu Blue Jay eat poor little Echo Gecko? Will she ever learn to speak French?

The adventures of this bevy of bayou characters is an enriching way for children to learn about these swamp critters and simple French phrases too.

PreS-Gr 2-Clovis Crawfish and his cohorts return for another adventure in the Louisiana bayou. In this story, Lizette Lizard introduces her friends to her petite cousine Echo Gecko, who is so shy that she can only repeat what she hears. Lizette explains that the little lizard would like to learn to speak French. All of the local animals are willing to help, and Christophe Cricket even sings a French song, Je peux parler francais (the music and an English translation are included). A sudden rainstorm drives all of the creatures to seek shelter and, when they emerge, they realize that Echo Gecko has disappeared. Clovis discovers that she has been captured by a mallow blossom and pinches the flower, which releases her. By the end of the story, Echo Gecko has learned a new language and made some new friends. The distinctive personality of each of the characters comes through in the colorful cartoon artwork. A pronunciation guide and translations for all of the Cajun French words used in the text are appended. A good choice for fans of the series, this book could also lead to discussion of a unique habitat.-Kristin de Lacoste, South Regional Public Library, Pembroke Pines, FL Copyright 2003 Reed Business Information.
