All Music Guide - William Ruhlmann

In fact, in the publicity notes for the album, Rideout calls it "Q's Jook Joint with more of an R&B flava on the light jazz textures." The difference, in other words, is that Rideout has produced an album aimed directly at smooth jazz and quiet storm radio formats consisting of melodic tracks with percolating electronic rhythm beds and modest soloing that is more tasteful than tasty, plus, in many cases, simple vocal lines expressing romantic ...

The difference, in other words, is that Rideout has produced an album aimed directly at smooth jazz and quiet storm radio formats consisting of melodic tracks with percolating electronic rhythm beds and modest soloing that is more tasteful than tasty, plus, in many cases, simple vocal lines expressing romantic sentiments. Rideout doesn't have Quincy Jones' ability to summon superstars into the studio, but the talents of Roy Ayers, Randy Brecker, and Will Downing are on display, along with those of many less well-known musicians. Club 1600 is deliberately nothing to get upset about, but it will make unobjectionable listening for many a lazy Sunday afternoon and might even make a nice soundtrack for a romantic evening.

    Outstanding

Smooth, smooth, smooth. A true jazz jam that may be overlooked by many. Check it out - you'll be glad you did !
