Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Sue Reichard
This fast paced adventure title in the popular series also provides a good punch of suspense. Jeff is awakened in the middle of the night by his dog who is growling at something at the window. "Through the bedroom window came a sputtering of a motorboat in the lake." No one should be on the lake at 2:30 in the morning so Jeff decides to investigate. He wakes his brother and they are off to the lake. Through binoculars they see an aluminum boat and someone holding up a lantern. Suddenly, a large object is rolled over the side of the boat and disappears under the water. The boat comes ashore and people walk onto the island and disappear into the darkness. The boy's father, who recently died, always insisted the boys never explore Lost Island until Jeff has turned twelve and never alone. Curiosity gets the best of the boys and they are off on a dangerous mission. Mystery, action, and suspense will keep readers turning the pages of this chapter book. It is a great choice for middle school libraries and classrooms. Reviewer: Sue Reichard
