My grandfather was a private during this war. With much luck lets me know why I'm able to read of the good and BAD of this war, especially from a privates point of view. Not from history books, or from news reports. You get a feeling that you are with him side by side during his events, feeling his hardships and appreciates his cunning for being honest staying the tour of duty. Very educated able to escape from capture, blending in with the enemy with ease without getting caught, makes me proud to be a SON OF A CONFEDERATE VETERAN.
The best reading material published on the life of a civil war solider. Filled with laughter and tears, one moment I was cracking up with Sam ,the next his words were tearing my heart out. A must for any civil war buff, a must for all history students, a must for all Americans!
