Library Journal - Library Journal
Clark and Fry ( Believing the News , Poynter Inst., 1985), faculty at the Poynter Institute for Media Studies, present an innovative approach to improving the frequently adversarial relationship between newsroom editors and journalists. Based on techniques used in their seminars, the authors describe the art of coaching, the personal side of editing, the writing process, and strategies for developing a cooperative and creative environment. Each chapter includes a brief checklist-type summary and a ``workshop'' section with activities and questions designed to stimulate creative thinking. Although simplistic in approach, the text contains concrete examples and anecdotes illustrating how the techniques foster teamwork. Recommended especially for journalism curriculum collections but of interest to anyone writing professionally.-- Denise Sticha, Carnegie Lib. of Pittsburgh
