    Highly recommended!

This book is the most organized and well-written softball drills book I've ever read. It's really two books in one. Each chapter contains a detailed discussion of mechanics, followed by a slew of drills. The text is thorough and engaging - I wanted to get off the couch and start coaching right away! Each drill contains bulleted how-to execute the drill, plus a Hints section, as well as what the authors call 'Advanced Variations' of the drill. So there is something in the book for every level of coach and player, from rec league to travel ball and high school. The authors focus not only on basic fundamentals, but also advanced fundamentals, taking you step-by-step through slap-hitting, power slap hitting, all kinds of advanced pitches, and defensive footwork like the rocker pivot for middle infielders - all the stuff you need to bring your players to the next level. Even the advanced stuff is written in a clear and easy-to-understand way. Chalk another one up for Michele Smith - Olympic Gold Medalist, a great ESPN commentator, and now we find out, a great writer.

    Excellent coaching and drills resource

I would recommend this book to any coach of U10, U12, U14 and high school girls softball. I previewed the book with my coaches around the league, and we all think that it's a super resource. One comment that kept coming up is that the book is very organized and well written. It takes even the most advanced travel ball concepts and teaches you how to explain the concepts to middle schoolers, including the consequences of not doing something the right way. It's got advanced infield and outfield drills, hitting drills, pitching drills, even drills to sharpen your mental skills. Photos were useful also.
