What happens when a black cat crosses your path? If you are Coco, then you believe you are doomed to bad luck. Coco, the title character in this addition to the "Lotus Lane" series, is an only child in a large, extended Italian family. She is also a part of the Lotus Lane Girls Club with her best friends Kiki and Lulu. When Coco decides to take on the cause of the snail, she decides the girls should build a garden where snails can live. She gets permission to have the garden at school and plans a cupcake sale to earn the money for supplies. Then she has an encounter with a black cat. Things start going downhill and Coco blames the problems on the cat. A talk with her nonna helps change her outlook and get things back on track. The book is very reminiscent of Marissa Moss's "Amelia's Notebook" series in both format and flavor. The illustrated diary format is a good fit for readers newly adjusting to longer length chapter books. The book even includes a recipe for cupcakes. This is likely to be a popular series with young girls. Reviewer: Lisa Colozza Cocca

Coco: My Delicious Life by Kyla May My rating: 3 of 5 stars Coco: My Delicious Life by Kyla May is the second book in the Lotus Lane children's book series. Each book centers around a different member of the Lotus Lane Girls club. The book is wrote as if it IS the journal of Coco. She tells us about herself , her family and her friends. Her parents gave her the diary as a present when her painting of her chihuahua, Evie, won the 'most lifelike' award at the school art fair. The book is charmingly decorated with doodles and diagrams and is a very fun read.
