I cannot say enough good things about this spiritual counselor & his book!!! Robert Burney is literally a lifesaver, and he shares his wisdom poignantly and freely in a mammoth effort to help other human beings to heal. I spent my whole life wondering what was wrong, and why I couldn't find happiness or serenity that lasted more than a few days. In the past, I'd even tried traditional psychotherapy in the hopes of stopping the pain, and it didn't work, either. Finally, after being Spirit-led to Robert's amazing works, I spent hours & hours reading his pages, trying to absorb all the wonderful information he so freely offers at his website. A spark of hope grew into a flame of joy as I knew deep inside of my soul that I 'belonged' there. When so many of this compassionate man's words touched my innermost self, I bought his book for myself and copies for all my children. I wanted the cycle to stop!! I want my grandkids to know self-love from the outset. The pain and misery of having a wounded inner child for over 55 years is finally abating, thanks to this caring human being. He truly cares about helping others & it shows brilliantly in his offerings. I am marvelling at the changes in my life in just a couple of months of working with him. I listen to his tapes several times a week, as I get something new out of each session, and I'm amazed (so are my friends & family!) at the changes that have been evidencing in my life. I'm using many of his concepts and affirmations in my life to help others, as well. I simply cannot say enough about this awesome man and his work for inner child healing & for world peace. I literally owe him my life. ~~DLM~~

This book is a nice start. Burney's characterization of the codependent mind is concise. While the concept of a 'codependent' culture being linked to a spiritual disease common throughout mankind is not new nor novel, Burney's perspective of this concept within a 12 step context is interesting. Very long on why the mindset exists, often times repetative, but very disappointing in terms of how to make effective change in ones life. There are much better and more concrete guides available to approach healing and change through a spiritual path. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
