Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
Best known for her 1987 best seller, Codependent No More, Beattie has developed a 12-step workbook not only for those suffering from codependency issues but for those experiencing phobias, addictions, and other disorders. Beattie describes codependent people as those who let another person's behavior affect them overly and who are obsessed with controlling that person's behavior. Beattie helps readers thoroughly understand the issues involved and teaches them how to set and enforce healthy limits while giving and nurturing others. She offers exercises and activities, which are tied to AA's 12-step program, and gives numerous examples of individuals who have succeeded in turning their lives around. The use of a journal or notebook is recommended for recording thoughts and feelings. For all those willing to work to become their best selves, Beattie's book is without equal.

Meet the Author

Melody Beattie is the author of numerous best-selling books, including Codependent No More, Beyond Codependency, The Language of Letting Go, More Langauge of Letting Go, and 52 Weeks of Conscious Contact. Her first book, Codependent No More, was published by Hazelden in 1986. Melody's compassionate and insightful look into codependency--the concept of losing oneself in the name of helping another--struck a universal chord among families struggling with a loved one's addiction or other life issues. More than twenty years later, the concepts continue to ring true for millions of people worldwide, as Codependent No More has sold more than five million copies and has been translated into more than a dozen languages. In 2009, Dr. Drew Pinsky named Codependent No More one of four essential self-help books of all time in Newsweek magazine. Melody's recent titles include The Grief Club, Gratitide, and The New Codependency. Her new book, Codependent No More Workbook, will be in stores in the spring of 2011.
