Editorial Reviews

Voya Reviews, April 2014 (Vol. 36, No. 1) - Allison Hunter Hill
If readers are currently unfamiliar with Cody Simpson, they will not be for long. He is a sixteen-year-old Aussie teen heartthrob who got his big break in the same way as Justin Bieber: YouTube. And while we are talking about the Biebs, it does not hurt to mention that Simpson opened for his Believe tour, scoring thousands of new teen fans in the process. Simpson fans will adore this autobiography. Filled with glossy behind-the-scenes photos of Simpson both backstage and at home, it covers all the usual bases. Nonfans will be bored to tears. The book reads like one long Oscar speech, thanking family, friends, teachers, record labels, agents, etc. On the other hand, there are worse things for a teen star to be than thankful. He credits hard work, natural talent, and a supportive family with his success and does not shy away from confessing regret at foregoing a promising swimming career for music. Celebrity books are a dime a dozen (though this one does not come cheap), and this one is not outstanding for the genre. However, it will appeal to Cody’s not insignificant fan base and may attract some new faces to your shelves. Reviewer: Allison Hunter Hill; Ages 15 to 18.

Meet the Author

Cody Simpson began to record in his bedroom during the summer of 2009, performing covers of popular artists and two original songs, "One" and "Perfect."
