I really loved "COLD". It is about a poet/artist who is coming-of-age. He is trying to make sense of his life through poetry, prose and lyrics. There's real honesty in this novel, the author does not hold back - even from the parts of life that are painful, challenging or confusing. This honesty makes the novel an emotional ride because you can relate to all the characters, no matter what your age, sex, background or education... it's life, written clearly and beautifully.

I enjoyed that I could read this novel for pleasure, a guide to understanding hip-hop on a deeper level, to remember that other people feel the same way as you are finding yourself or, as an academic who wants a challenge.

If you can get the accompanying CDs, I highly recommend them because you can listen to the tracks and read the lyrics. After you finish the novel, I can guarantee you'll want to put the CDs on heavy rotation.

    Urban-Crafted Post Modern Literature

My hat goes off to A.D. Carson, this is a perfect example of the marriage that can exist between classic literature and hip hop. This was a thought evoking novel. It made me re-visit what it was like to discover my passions and pursue them. The way Carson delicately crafted the novel with the combination of prose and poetry was inspiring. Cold is truly an innovative literary masterpiece and will be around for generations to come.
