From the Publisher
"Cold-Blooded is the embodiment of a top-notch, great thriller. Lisa Regan will make you thankful for your safe, comfortable bed while you're hiding under the covers reading this quintessential, calculated, maniacal masterpiece. Cold-Blooded is a mix of gripping terror and tension." - Dana Mason, Author of Dangerous Embrace

In Regan's (Hold Still, 2014, etc.) thriller, Philadelphia private investigator Jocelyn Rush takes the reins of a cold case from a terminal ex-homicide detective who needs help finding the killer before he dies. The unsolved murder of teenager Sydney Adams has left former detective Augustus Knox's life in ruins. Fourteen years later, his wife and job are gone, his daughter hates him, and his alcoholism has ravaged so much of his body that he has mere months to live. He seeks help from Jocelyn, a retired cop now with her own investigation firm. Knox is sure the murderer's Cash Rigo, Sydney's married high school coach, who'd likely had an affair with the girl, a dalliance seemingly confirmed by recently discovered photos. Sydney's murder looks like a random shooting to Jocelyn, but Rigo definitely doesn't appear innocent, especially with his rickety alibi. Jocelyn teams up with homicide cop Trent Razmus and brings the case in from the cold with news reports declaring new evidence (though it's not necessarily true) and a fundraiser in Sydney's honor. Jocelyn eventually links Rigo to a suspicious death and sees signs that he's abusing his pregnant wife, Francine. But she may underestimate certain people's desires to keep the truth hidden, which could put Jocelyn's own life in danger. The protagonist is just as unyielding as she was in Regan's previous novel: she's not one to readily offer forgiveness, but her resolve is commendable. There's little mystery to the story, as Jocelyn has few suspects and spends more time trying to extract a confession from Rigo than investigating the case. But Jocelyn's life brims with hurdles. The tortured Knox, for one, is perpetually drunk, while Jocelyn fears that sister Camille, a former addict, may want to take away her 4-year-old daughter, Olivia, whom Jocelyn's raised as her own. Jocelyn's as tough as they come, but couple that with her motherly instincts, and it's categorically endearing: "Why can't I make cupcakes that look like Minions or a goddamn Disney Princess?" the typically foulmouthed private eye grumbles. Even if readers are a step or two ahead of Jocelyn in the investigation, her charisma is unmitigated and unending. A delightful detective who more than earns and deserves her own series.

So good!!!! Lisa Regan has created a disturbing and intriguing story in Cold-Blooded. Just when you think that you have the mystery all figured out, you don’t. It’s not the mystery itself that makes this book so compelling, it’s the journey into the dark and twisted mind of a psychopath that keeps you turning the page. Every detail sucks you in and gets you emotionally involved because you can’t help but wonder if there are really people like that in the real world. Of course, when you know the answer is a resounding yes, you’re glad that this is only a book. Cold-Blooded is the story of former police detective turned private investigator, Jocelyn Rush. She is hired by former homicide detective Augustus Knox. Knox wants her to solve a decades old murder of a female high school student who was gunned down while jogging one night. This case was an obsession for Knox because he was sure who the killer was but couldn’t find any hard evidence to convict him. Now, Knox only has about 6 months to live and wants to get closure for the family. Ironically, Knox ruined his own family by not letting this case go for all of these years. He was an excellent detective who allowed this one tragedy to make him a pathetic drunk. To make matters worse, Rush has her own scars both literally and figuratively from the last case that she worked as a detective. Together, they pursue a pedophile who has been preying on young girls for years. It is a group effort as they get help from other contacts in law enforcement and find an unlikely ally in the pedophile’s wife. However, things aren’t always what they seem. As they say, the devil is in the details. I’m glad that the author breaks up some of the intensity by allowing us to get a glimpse into Knox and Rush’s personal lives. Cold-Blooded is the second book in a series but I had no problem finding my way without reading the first book, Hold Still, although I do intend to go back and read it. All of the characters had something to offer this story. I truly felt like it was complete and didn’t leave my hanging. The suspense is so good that I don’t dare to give anything anyway. You will not be disappointed. **Received a copy from the author in exchange for an honest unbiased review.**

This is one of those books that just ticked the boxes of suspense, of twisted, everything. It gave enough of the personal lives of every person, to make you interested and keep you that way. I loved it from the first page. If you enjoy twisted thrillers, murder mystery, with detail that gives you clues as to the characters personalities this is the book for you. I loved the flawed character of Augustus Knox, who although he's extremely flawed, but terminally ill, an alcoholic and determined to solve this case before he dies. He has neglected his own family for so long and this is his dying wish. He is certain he knows who the murderer is. His determination to solve this for the sake of the dead girls family, knowing he has lost his own, presses the pity button not just in the PI in the story, but in anyone who reads the story. This is one of those books you should not miss. It says so much about people and their lives behind the daily mask they put on. Did I say I LOVE this book? No? I love this book and must read more. * I received this book from Goddess Fish Promotions in return for a fair and honest review. *

This was my first book by Lisa Regan, but definitely not my last. I've already added Hold Still, which includes some of the same characters, to my wish list. In Cold-Blooded, PI Jocelyn Rush is asked to investigate the cold case of a teenage girl who was shot fourteen years ago. This book had one of the most warped psychopath I've read about in a long time. The most impressive thing for me was how you were aware that this individual was obviously involved in the murder but you could not predict how truly sick this person was until the layers were peeled off bit by bit. Very cleverly done and succinctly written, I absolutely loved it! All the other characters were skillfully crafted as well with enough background on each one that you felt totally connected to them and they became alive. A perfect thriller with lots of suspense, twists and turns, but also some humor and even a bit of romance. I was so engrossed in this story, I didn't actually want it to end. Highly recommended for crime and thriller fans! Thanks to the publisher and author for providing me with a copy via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

4.5 Stars! I really, really liked this book! I kept going back and forth from two different suspects. It was crazy! Then in the end when the suspect is finally revealed, all the things behind the scenes that were done. This suspect was crazy. I definitely did not want to put this book down. It was really good and I found myself just flipping through the pages. Unfortunately, I had to put it down every once in a while as I was cooking Thanksgiving dinner. Ugh! However, when I finally got back to it, the author did not disappoint. Even when someone was finally arrested, it was not over. This killer was a very sick, creative one. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. And, I emphatically recommend it. And, it is definitely worth the price!!! You definitely get your money's worth at twice the dollar amount! I'd like to thank the author and Net Galley for providing me this free e-galley in exchange for an honest review. I will absolutely be looking for other titles by this author!
