I enjoyed this eerie tale that kept me up reading past bedtime.

I enjoyed this eerie tale that kept me up reading past bedtime. It's one of those that builds at a nice steady pace. Then you suddenly realize you are turning the pages faster and faster (swiping the iPad screen in my case). The story allows you to see an equal glimpse into the lives of each interesting guest. The mysterious and creepy hostess, Erin, has invited a seemingly unrelated guest list. I found myself trying to figure out the reason for her invitation and was unsuccessful. So, the author truly surprised me with the plot twist near the end.

Short, creepy and unpredictable. The mysterious Erin Dartford,

    Short, creepy and unpredictable.

The mysterious Erin Dartford, a powerful fashion critic, has invited several people she doesn't know to her estate for a lavish dinner. Intrigued, and just a little afraid of Dartford, her guests oblige and learn that revenge is a dish best served cold.

    Should Be Compulsory Reading

If you look back at my review of Cavendish's first offering, In My Lady's Chamber, you will see that I said "Cavendish captures the atmosphere perfectly and demonstrates an ability to chill in the great British tradition". She proves herself yet again with her novella, Cold Revenge, which is a much more complex and clever tale, brilliantly executed in a manner that will delight lovers of Dahl's Tales of the Unexpected and the old Twilight Zone shows. I loved the fact that there is a message in here, and one frighteningly relevant in present times. It should be compulsory reading in the City of London and Wall Street.
