I should have read the reviews. This takes place in 2005 but seems like 1905, I kept checking the date because I couldn't believe it would be present day. It's written so formally and what I mean is the language between the characters is so out of date, you think your reading an old romance story one hundred years back. I won't be reading any other books by this author.

One of the worse books I have read in a while. It seemed to take place in the present at times and other times seemed like it took place in the 50's or 60's. I only finished it because it was an easy read.

When you just want a little something to read, a little romantic comedy, this is a fun read. Ruth Ann Nordin is a good story teller and a fair writer.
I do have to say, I wonder when this was originally written. Unlike the other book of hers I've read, this one seems like it was written by Nordin as a precocious but strangely ignorant 16-yr-old. In this book, the year is 1894, and our hero keeps a stage coach for driving around town, has a personal chef whose ambition is to open a pizzeria, and runs around making phone calls. A) Stage coaches are for driving between towns. B) When you've only got 5 servants at best, you have a cook not a chef, and you certainly don't have a "personal chef," not in 1894. C) Topped cheese pizza didn't get going in Italy until 1889, and the first U.S. pizzeria didn't open until 1905 - in New York, of course. So no "chef" in Virginia would be thinking pizza in 1894. And finally, D) telephones didn't get going until after 1894, which was the year the Bell telephone patents expired. Our hero could have had a phone, but he'd probably have been the only one with a phone.
On the other hand, Nordin was true to time when our heroine is bullied into marriage, objects, and is then characterized as "childishly rebellious." That's irritating to the modern mind, and it gets in the way of reading the book. This is the one place where the filter of current perspective would not have been amiss.
Still, though, it's entertaining and good enough for the price of $0.99

THis is not my usual typed of book being a mystery reader, but I loved this book. It was well written and moved along at a good pace with the characters being well developed and the dialogue sounded believable.

Chapter one starts with "August 2005". Don't bother reading more, that's the best there is. In 2005 2 virgins, arranged marriage, everyone is immature. Men in finance and investment taken for a ride that is not only irritatingly idiotic but excuse me, not even in the realm of lawful possibility. All within the timespan of a few weeks. Reviews are right. It seems like you are reading from the 50's. for 1/3rd the cost buy Maid for The Billionaire by Ruth Cardello. Rookie novelist with a good start.

I get that this story is a romance for a highly reserved religious market. But a man in his mid twenties and another forty plus never kissed? Pleassssse...even kindergarderners give lil kisses to people they like! But even more outlandish is business people who leave documents unsecured and passwords accessible. If bad investing was made, it was by the lack wits who did'nt take the time to research the requirements for any financial entity. Go to Sarbone Oxley, GAAP, and the IRS business code. Liked the authors idea, but to teach and inspire you have to make it plausible. Otherwise go SciFi!

Unfortunately once, I start a book I must read it in its entirety, no matter how painful. Although the story line was cute, it was totally unclear what period the story took place in...somewhere between 1800's and 1990? The writing style was rather juvenile. I kept thinking of how I had to expand a 500-word essay into 2,000 words by adding in a lot of fluff to cover the space.

I found this story plot too sad to finish. A modern women getting married to please others and for money. When I bought it I though it was set 100 years ago based on the description. The use of God in the story was also sad to me. It was like the author was using religion to justify someone in 2007, marrying someone she does not even know because her father arranged it. I wish I did not buy this story. If you like books where a woman thinks for herself, do not buy this book.

For the book is a misprint. Not the 2000's but late 1800's
