Overview

Anna Coleman is the youngest daughter of a wealthy cotton mill owner struggling to salvage his failing business as textile mills over the Deep South begin shutting down due to the growing popularity of polyester and cheap overseas labor. After years of suffering horrific abuse at the hands of their father, Anna and her two sisters eventually inherit the declining mill and transform it into the largest, most successful carpet and tile distributor in the southeastern United States. Despite being born into southern aristocracy, two of the sisters marry men far beneath their own social status and wealth. Anna marries Gene Longhorn, a poverty-ridden farmhand whose bitterness over his lot in life becomes his downfall, resulting in tragic consequences for the family he adores.

It catches you up in a story of a family with flaws, love, support and the dark side of life which is never shown to the outside world. Anna is easy to fall in love with and a person one would like for a best friend. You don't want it to end because you want to know what happens to the characters and what life has in store for them. I recommend Coleman Hill highly.

Read the book in two sittings. I could barely put the book down once, did not want the story to stop. What is next? I will be waiting for the next book and or movie by June Thomas Cook. Thank you.

My name is Susan Martin and I am a good friend of Pank Veal. She loaned me your book, Coleman Hill over the week-end and I have about 20 pages left and do not want it to end. I have thoroughly enjoyed it and am anxiously awaiting The Plantation. You are certainly a gifted author.

Held my attention from the very beginning. Family, intrique, and secrets made it impossible for me to put the book down. Made me feel as if I was there, observing the family's life. What a twist of fate in the end... made me cry. Can't wait to read the next one.

This is one book I couldn't put down!! I felt like I knew all the characters personally, and I cried with them and enjoyed with them all the happiness along the way. The closeness of the families spilled over the generations, and it made me feel so happy that they stood by their own under all circumstances. June Cook has captured the events that lead to a powerful story so wonderfully and exciting. This is a must read book!!!!!

I picked this book in the store and was intrigued right off the bat. I took it home read the whole thing that night. I loved this story. It really gives you the feeling of being right there in this town seeing all of this unfold. And MAN(!) the ending! I won't give it away but I'll just say that I did not see it coming AT ALL. This is a real great read for anyone that likes slice of life stories.

I loved this book. I didn't grow up in the south but it's culture has interested me for a while now and this book gave me real insight into what it's like to grow up in the deep south. I felt really bad for the people in this book and the ending caught me completely of guard. It's a great read!

The characters seemed to jump off the page right into your lap. The story stirrd my deepest emotions and moved me to tears. There were so many twists and turns that kept me guessing and turning page after page. The one thing you CANNOT say about Coleman Hill is, it was NEVER predictable.

Fast and enjoyable read. Could never predict events in advance. Family life in the deep south with characters that seem to live with you and you with them. Surprise ending which makes me yearn for the sequel. This would make a great movie.

You fall in love with Anna from the beginning and pull for her to achieve and rise above throughout the story. The author helps you to remember stories from your past and relive them thru the Coleman family and other members of the story. Completely fell in love with the characters and look forward to reading Porter Plantation. Thank you Ms. Cook!
