Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
What can you do with cotton balls, broken toys, bones, dried seeds or hairpins? These are only a few of the items needed to create fifty different projects. The author feels that children should be stimulated by the process and not focus in on the final product. There's no right way, there's no wrong way, there's just your way. Icons, easy to follow steps and simple black-and-white illustrations guide instructors to help children of all ages make treasures. Some activities create a group project such as a woven fishnet or a feeling tree. Other activities are three-dimensional, like the nail collage or the button box. Others might work with tissue and finger-paints or cut outs from magazines. Many activities stimulate the senses or create an aura of wonder. An excellent introduction and three indexes make this a valuable source for parents and educators. Four books are included in this "Preschool Art" series written by an award-winning author. 2001, Gryphon House, $7.95. Ages All. Reviewer: Laura Hummel

    Bite-Sized Pieces for Parents

I was happy to see these new selections from Gryphon House because they take MaryAnn Kohl's books and break them down into bite-sized pieces. While some projects may be familiar to teachers, it is wonderful to have someone like MaryAnn Kohl put them all together, add a little twist, add her own innovations, and give them to us in book form. You may think that it's easy to think up 100's of project ideas until you give it a try... but then you'll want this book so you won't have to! I've seen MaryAnn teach in workshops and she is wonderful. This comes across in her projects. She truly loves kids and wants them to
