    Essential for learning Dutch

I have been using Rosetta Stone for quite some time now, but found that it seemed quite dry - very basic and seemingly unnatural. (Probably why it is used by "NASA and fortune 500 companies.") So, I purchased this book as a supplement, hoping to get a better grasp on colloquial dutch, and to have a resource for the language. Quite immediately, this book became my main source for learning Dutch - it has everything you want and need to know. Most importantly, it has somebody who is in the know both culturally and linguistically leading you through a new language, what more could you ask for? This answered many questions I had lingering from using a program like the Rosetta Stone and brought what Dutch I had learned up to date. It's very easy to read and navigate and the cultural tidbits it adds is worth it alone. With that it provides the security and confidence that you are learning Dutch the way people in present day Netherlands are speaking it (with a scarcity of Dutch classes, perfect for somebody self-taught). Unfortunately this version on B&N does not come with the supplement CD's, which I am yet to find, but will be a great way to go back and review the book when I get them.
