Editorial Reviews

John A. McNulty
This fourth edition atlas comprises well over 1,000 illustrations of the human body, which have exceptional quality and clarity. Because anatomy is such a visual subject, anatomical atlases are of paramount importance in assisting students with visualization. With this atlas the authors have skillfully achieved their goal of impressing upon the student the ""overwhelming beauty of the anatomical architecture of tissues and organs"" comprising the human body. This atlas is appropriate for students of anatomy at all levels, from those who are in the initial phases of education in the health sciences, up to and including practicing physicians who require a detailed anatomical reference. This atlas is divided according to regions following an introductory chapter that describes the general organization of the various systems. A brief discussion of modern diagnostic imaging modalities is a nice addition. Each chapter includes sections describing the various organs (e.g., bones, muscles, nerves, etc.) of the region with systematic representations of dissections from superficial to deeper structures. The organization of chapters on the ""Trunk,"" ""Abdominal Organs,"" and ""Retroperitoneal Organs"" is not consistent with most anatomy courses and may cause some frustrations for students. Any serious student of anatomy should strongly consider including this atlas in their library because the quality of the illustrations and the details presented are unsurpassed. I even recommend that readers use a magnifier to view the images.

Juxtaposes color photographs of dissections with color line drawings pointing out the features visible. The organization is didactic and reflects the functional aspects of the organ systems. The information is consistently related to clinical applications. Earlier editions were published between 1983 and 1993; this includes some 60 new photographs and 20 new drawings, additional computed tomography and magnetic resonance images, tables and charts, and an overview of modern imaging technologies. EXCELLENT - Spanish Edition

I am a first year dental student studying in Mexico. Our first year Descriptive Anatomy course is one of the "make you or break you" courses to see if a student has the academic discipline required to be a dentist. The superb quality of the photographs of the cadavers and the detail is unparalled. It also enhances your ability to understand anatomy in 3 dimensions (especially the bones and other anatomy inside of cranium). If you are a visual learner, you need this book.

    wow, great specimens!

This is a good resource for those in any medical field. An awesome companion to this book is Netter's atlas of anatomy, which is a book of incredible drawings. Rohens' photographic atlas is close to doing a cadaver dissection in your own home!! The specimens, dissections and photos are superb! Wonderful to compare Netters' illustrations with the real thing!
