Description: Organized into specific organ systems and physiological processes, this atlas will be a great aid for any student.
Purpose: With an overwhelming body of facts, this book is much needed to give students a chance to concentrate on the most important physiological concepts and to understand them. These objectives are well met by the authors.
Audience: This book is written for students. The authors are highly respected physiologists.
Features: The atlas begins with a rather didactic overview of fundamental cellular processes essential to the human body. This is a great introduction to the subsequent chapters and fits nicely with the structure of the curriculum, since there will be some demand for basic science. Since it is not a large book, it will be easy for medical students to carry it with them for easy access to vague or forgotten material. It provides a convenient way of looking up information when the main textbook is unavailable. The format pairs text on the left-hand page with informative diagrams, schematics, pictures, graphs, etc., on the right-hand page. This is a definite advantage for students who may not always have the time to page through a large textbook to find a certain paragraph and a particular figure it refers to.
Assessment: Although this atlas is not as in depth as what will be required for the curriculum, it provides a great way to review crucial and vital processes, perhaps before an exam or in simple review. This is a great book for any student in the medical field.
