Editorial Reviews

Evan B. Cohn
This atlas renders anatomic, histologic, pathologic, and diagnostic aspects of urology in photographs, radiographs, and color illustrations. The purpose is to familiarize senior students, younger urologists, and general surgeons with a broad-based yet cursory grounding in the findings that they may encounter in patients with urologic disease. It is intended for use as a complement to other major texts. The main group that would find this useful are senior students with an interest in urology and junior level residents who would use it as an adjunct to a major urology text. There is insufficient depth for it to be useful in a stand-alone fashion and it is therefore doubtful that nonurologists (general surgeons and presumably general practitioners) would find this text to be a solid resource. One unique aspect of the text is the basic presentation of high-quality, color cystoscopic pictures, which alone make the book worthwhile for junior residents. Radiographs are small but clear enough to demonstrate their intended message. The index is adequate. The references are sparse, but not needed for this type of book. Although not appropriate for the broad range of audiences stated by the authors, this handsome, well-bound collection of high-quality images and compact text should be included by any store that carries major texts.
