Most people never consider color as a way to change their lives. Yet it's an instant and simple tool to bring excitement to everyday existence. Colors push and pull at our emotions, calling us to embrace life in the boldest of ways. Color adds dashes of madness to a shy life, infuses vast sensuality to a prim life, and injects raw and primitive emotion into our homes. Adding color to your home is a way of communicating your joy of living and creating a life of continual enchantment and wonder. Captivating, inviting rooms make living worthwhile because color expresses meaning in ways words cannot.
For example, many CEOs who live a life defined by stringent rules and corporate protocol decorate their walls with abstract paintings streaked with intense, carefree color. Though seemingly at odds with their corporate images, something about the paintings resonates deep within them. The vibrant colors remind them, however subtly, of the intriguing nature of their true, authentic, personal selves.
Perhaps you've considered painting your kitchen in shades of salmon with highlights of citrus green, but don't know how to start. Many of us are afraid to add color to our homes. We have learned to distrust our innate creativity. We are so preprogrammed, over-scheduled, and consumed by work that it is no surprise when we fail to recognize the importance of nurturing our visual senses. We enrich our lives by attending concerts, hiking, dining in gourmet restaurants, but seldom consider the creative part of making our most intimate surroundings-our home-beautiful by way of our own hearts. Using color to reawaken our senses is emotionally thrilling and soulful work. Indeed, simply adding color to our homes will make us more creative in all phases of our lives.
