Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Sharon Salluzzo
This touch and feel board book introduces four colors to very young children: yellow, green, blue and red. Two pages are devoted to each color and show two graphic-style animals in those colors. A few truly work in the natural world, such as the yellow lion and the green frog. But why is there a green bear, a blue elephant and a red cat? It is too bad the book is inconsistent with the natural colorings of the animals. That would have added an additional dimension to the book. Having said that, the bold graphic designs are appropriately simple, the color focus is clear. The directions to "Touch this!" invite interaction and expand vocabulary with such words as, "soft," "bumpy," "shimmery," "fluffy," and "sparkly." The last two pages show all four colors together. On the left hand side are four two-tone squares showing a different geometric pattern in each color. On the right hand side is a butterfly with all four colors. This is a fanciful and fun introduction to colors for baby. Reviewer: Sharon Salluzzo
