Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Heather Welsh
Go on a journey of colors from the yellow of the school bus to orchards filled with delicious red apples and gold and orange leaves hanging on trees, all without leaving your seat. See the geese above migrating in the blue sky, smell the purple chrysanthemums and catch the brown football as it's thrown to you during a backyard game. There are beautiful orange jack-o'-lanterns, frosty white weather and every color in between. The book gives interesting trivial facts and explains more involved scientific processes such as why leaves change color and why the days get shorter in fall. The book is appropriate for second graders if read aloud or independent third grade readers. The pictures are large, colorful and help young readers better understand the text. The color words are bold and painted the color they are describing to help younger readers learn their colors. There is a handy glossary in the back of the book that explains more difficult vocabulary such as "chlorophyll" and "equinox." There are recommended related texts and internet sites in the back of the book that students and teachers may find helpful. Readers who enjoy this book might also enjoy others in the "Colors of" set, which includes insects, sports, the ocean and weather. Reviewer: Heather Welsh
