Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Vicki Foote
Fish and animals that live in water are shown in brilliant colors in this nonfiction book in the A+ books "Colors All Around" series. Large double-spread photographs have an emphasis on color while informational paragraphs describe the blue ocean, the rainbow-colored beach umbrella, and red-orange coral that is referred to as pink. The photos are eye-catching, and the facts are interesting. A yellow, white, orange and black butterfly fish looks similar at both ends, and predators can't tell which end will swim away. A purple and red sea cucumber is called the vacuum cleaner of the sea. Kelp, sea anemones, sea slugs, sea stars, and seahorses add their various colors, and a moray eel displays its deep brown color. A red sea urchin and a black and white whale are followed by a peaceful photo of a castle made of tan sand with a suggestion to try building a castle with damp sand. A glossary, index, book and Internet references are included. Specific words and phrases should help readers learn new words. This text is a good resource for science curriculum, and its appealing format should hold the interest of the young reader. Reviewer: Vicki Foote
