Una intervención cuyo motivo fue «vengar tanta ofensa y humillación de Estados Unidos a México a lo largo de la historia… Por desgracia, como estaba tan oscuro la noche en que entramos a Columbus, confundimos los establos con los dormitorios de la guarnición y matamos un montón de caballos en lugar de soldados, lo que les permitió organizar la contraofensiva. El triste resultado final fue de sólo diecisiete gringos muertos, en su mayoría civiles, a cambio de más de cien de los nuestros y muchos heridos. Ahora, que el susto, ¿quién se los quita? No te imaginas la emoción que se siente gritar: «¡Mueran los gringos!», en pleno territorio norteamericano.»
