    Rick Young's comprehensive book about MPs in Vietnam

    This is an excellent book outlining the role and history of US Army Military Police units in Vietnam. It is a well-researched work written by an ex-MP who proudly served there starting in 1968. Concentrates on the 18th Military Police Brigade's surprisingly diverse mission: escort to supply convoys, VIP protection, river patrol, numerous direct combat roles, enemy detection using dogs, drug detection efforts, etc. This book is highly recommended to Vietnam vets,military historians, as well as average readers. I enjoyed it thouroughly, especially the MP unit histories and Mr. Young's accounts of often hairy combat skirmishes with an elusive enemy. As an ex-USAF Security Policeman (post-Vietnam), I had no idea that Army MPs played such a direct role in many firefights during the Vietnam War. The last unit to leave Vietnam, in fact, was an MP one. I urge anyone to read the book- to learn about those MP units that fought valiantly and earned high decorations for their courage. This book doesn't glorify war; it simply offers an interesting history of Military Police units caught in very difficult and dangerous circumstances.
