Children's LiteratureThe terrible events of September 11, 2001, have set the stage for what could be a generational effort to combat terrorism. Streissguth gives readers a comprehensive guide to the most recent events, strategies, and problems attached to this seemingly all consuming campaign. This book, part of "The War on Terrorism" series, deals with how the United States and its allies have set out to oppose terrorism. Throughout the book Streissguth does an outstanding job of offering a balanced perspective. For example, the author describes the sympathy for the United States after the tragic 9/11 attacks. This worldwide sympathy carried over into the efforts in Afghanistan to topple the Taliban government and its al-Qaeda allies. Conversely, Streissguth does well to note the sharp international divisions that the American attack on Iraq created. This well-written book will help readers young and old learn more about critical current events. 2004, Lucent Books, Ages 12 up.
