Overview

Sometimes appearances deceive. Take me, for instance. I look like a respectable doctor with his shit together, but the rural Montana mental hospital I work at is actually a sanctuary from my demons. At just thirty-five years old, I've already failed on an epic scale. Treating patients at Hawthorne Hill is part of my atonement.
I've found peace when a new patient turns me inside out. Allison Cole is a beautiful, haunted survivor who fell into silence after witnessing a murder. But even without words, I'm drawn to her. The closer we get, the more I'm tempted to cross my professional boundaries and give in to my desire.
Soon I find myself in a desperate race to put the pieces of Allison's silence together. Her life becomes inextricably entwined with mine as I fight to save the second chance I never thought I'd have. I'll break whatever rules I have to in order to protect this woman who's been to hell and back. For her, I'll do harm.

Wow!!!! This book blew me away, its a very different side to the authors writing but it was still everything I've come to expect from Brenda Rothert and more, I was hooked from the first chapter and was up most of the night reading I had to finish it.... Daniel Delgado is a doctor working in a private mental hospital in remote rural Montana, it's his choice to work where temptations from his demons can be kept at bay. Allison Cole has been admitted after witnessing the brutal murder of her twin sister, she is scared traumatised and refusing to speak. As with all suspense stories everything is not always what it seems and this book has a lot of twists and turns but it's also about two strangers finding themselves whilst searching for the truth and justice. The connecection that Daniel and Allison have from their first meeting is special but what will happen when lines are crossed, will love win over evil ........ Once again Brenda Rothert has given us a beautifully written book that is a must read of 2017. If only more stars could have been awarded......

Dr. Daniel Delgado is a man with a tortured past. His new patient, Allison, is suffering a mental issue from the death of her sister and is either unable or unwilling to speak. He is drawn to her almost immediately and begins to try and heal her. Allison is having a hard time dealing with seeing her sister killed right in front of her. She is confused at her sessions with Dr. Heaton, who seems more interested in harming her than helping her. Allison starts to form a bond with Daniel and, though both know that a romance between them is forbidden, the heart wants what it wants. Daniel is stunned to find that Allison is in danger and starts to plan how to make her safe. When his bosses at work don't take his concerns seriously enough, he has to take matters into his own hands. He learns a startling truth about his patient and begins to really understand how traumatic what happened to her really was. When men still are after her to kill her, Daniel must rely upon a friend of his from the army to help them get the information they need to put her sister's murderers away. It had a few twists and turns and was quite entertaining. I cannot go into detail on some of the plot twists, but they were quite interesting. I liked the slow build-up between the two and how they both acknowledged their feelings without playing games. When both of them have to place themselves in danger in order to get the truth to come out, Daniel confesses his true feelings for her and doesn't hesitate in laying it all out there. I liked the ending. Overall a good read.

4/5 STARS Wow that was intense…. Read it in one day… What a beautiful story… My review is short, since I don’t want to spoil the story, but I have to say I was absolutely hooked, from the first page. They way Daniel and Allison connect, the way their feelings get more and more deep for each other, and all the suspense. I nearly felt claustrophobic sometimes, the plot was brilliant. Main characters are far from perfect, but their story is about second chances at living, at surviving, at facing demons and falling in love again. This is my second book of Brenda, Hooked was my first, and I loved it too, but both books are very different. So if you want a touching love story, with strong characters, steamy scenes and suspense, grab this one and enjoy!!!

4.5 Stars! Genre: Romantic Suspense Type: Standalone with HEA POV: Dual POV with flawless transition My love for Brenda Rothert’s writing continues to grow even more with her latest release, Come Closer. Not only does this book have all of the romance, heat, and sweetness that we have come to expect from this author, but she has also really kicked it up a notch with a surprising level of suspense woven throughout the story. Daniel is a dedicated physician at the Hawthorne Hill Mental Hospital. He has chosen the life of seclusion that his position there provides due to his own inner demons he continues to struggle with. Allison is a new patient at the hospital after witnessing her sister’s murder. She is heartbroken, traumatized, and has refrained from speaking to anyone. About anything. The chemistry between these characters can be felt immediately, but the author has taken her time with slowly building the relationship while mixing all of the suspense and action within this plot. As well as with all previous releases, the supporting characters will also touch your heart. So if you like your sexy romance reads served up with surprising twists and turns, you’re gonna love this one! I Promise.

Daniel Delgado works in a mental hospital as the head doctor. One day a woman named Allison is admitted and isn't speaking. Allison witnessed her twin sister Ava being murdered. She is the only person who can shed some light on what happened to her and her sister. Daniel is attracted to her, but knows he can't act on it. He tries communicating with her until one day she starts using a white board to communicate with only him. I can't say too much about the story without giving anything away, but I definitely recommend everyone read it. Come Closer is romantic suspense and I loved every page of it!

I went into this book with some skepticism because I am not a fan of books where doctors get involved with patients but from the beginning something told me that Allison was not the typical mental patient. This book was so full of surprises. I will say I was not shocked by any of them, not because it was predictable but somehow while reading this book my mind was working like..hmm I wonder if.. and I just happened to be right. I did enjoy Allison and Daniel's story. This book is really hard to review without giving away the story so I will just say read it and you will enjoy it. 3.5 stars

It was easy to get lost in this book. I mean, really, first page, and I was gone. I have always appreciated and enjoyed author Brenda Rothert. She's the mistress of a hot hockey read, which I love (Ryke forever!), but has recently stepped out into more of what I'd call romantic intrigue or suspense, and she is absolutely rocking it. First, there was HIS, which I picked up and could not put down. It was a great read, and I was excited to see that COME CLOSER would be a little bit different, as well. Brenda has written a book that I tore through because I couldn't wait to see what the heck would happen next, and that I couldn't wait to tell other readers about. One of my favorite things about this book is the characters that Brenda has written. Doctor Daniel Delgado is a flawed man, but he's self-aware and stronger because of it. His humanity and humility shine through in everything that he does, and make him the perfect doctor for the patients at Hawthorne Hill, including Allison Cole. His ability to meet Allison exactly where she is, and to gain her trust, sets the stage for this different, engaging, action-packed, intriguing gem of a book that will keep you guessing and on the edge of your seat until the very last. COME CLOSER is full of twists and turns, and best read with no pre-conceived notions or clues, so I don't want to give anything away, but believe me when I say that you want to read this book. It's an easy 4.75 stars for me, and one that I happily recommend. You need it on your TBR right now; it's that good. Enjoy.

I love it when there is an added issue. Whether it be memory loss or in this case the character is mute. I feel like it builds the anticipation even more. Theres a fantastic twist in the plot you won't see coming. I'm somewhat sad with how rushed the ending was but all in all it's a great read.

Well this book was unexpected. Brenda Rothert is a somewhat “new to me” author that I’ve grown to love. Her writing style and ultra sexy stories have put her in my personal and blogging “auto-read” category. When an author is in this category, I tend to me a little careless when I read the blurbs for their upcoming books because I’m excited to read anything new from them. So, I was honestly expecting a super steamy love story when I picked up Come Closer. The blurb does give you a good idea of what’s to come but I must have missed the clues that tell you this book is way more than meets the eye.I started reading this book thinking I was in for a saucy doctor/patient romance but after I finished it’s pages I was left with one heck of an emotional book hangover. Our heroine, Allison Cole, is voluntarily mute after witnessing something so devastating that she’s having a difficult time moving on. The Hero, Daniel Delgado, is the head doctor at Hawthorne Hills mental hospital where Allison’s being treated. He’s a workaholic and cares deeply for the well being of every one of his patients…especially Allison. Daniel is also battling his own demons and has a few, unsavory skeletons in his past. When Allison finally starts to communicate, she does it by leaving notes in books that she borrows from Daniel. Slowly she begins living again and seems to be getting better. Through the book notes, the two of them grow closer but try to fight their mutual attraction. Their love story is incredibly romantic. It took the “defying the odds to be together” story-line to a new, deeper level to me. Allison and Daniel are already fighting authority and mental illness to have their happily ever after when there’s another, GIANT plot twist thrown at us. That plot twist is what made this book much more than a romantic love story to me. With the added suspense I found myself reading faster to see how all the pieces of this puzzle finally fit together. I give Come Closer 5 out of 5 Krissy’s Stars. This book took my by complete surprise and I loved the twisty, heart breaking, but ultimately uplifting story that Come Closer turned out to be. Xo-K *I was generously given an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

As soon as I started Come Closer, I could NOT put it down. I was riveted from the beginning to the end, and the story knocked my socks off. I have never read anything like this, and I am not sure I ever will again. I believe this is Ms. Rothert’s first foray into romantic suspense, and she knocked it out of the park. Allison Cole’s twin sister was murdered before her eyes, and she hasn’t spoken a word since it happened. No one knows if she physically cannot talk or if she is emotionally traumatized and unable to find the words. Her only relative - her aunt - sends her to a mental health facility in a remote area of Montana, and Allison willing goes. Daniel Delgado is the general practitioner at the facility and is in charge of the physical health of the patients. He is compassionate man and genuinely cares for all of his patients, but he is immediately intrigued by Allison. Of course, he should not see a patient as anything but a patient, and he is conflicted to like Allison and tortured when he begins to have feelings for her. He is a recovering alcoholic and divorced father who moved from Los Angeles in order to start a new life in Montana. His integrity means everything to him; therefore, this thing - whatever it is - with Allison is exactly what he doesn’t need and what shouldn’t happen. It might seem crazy that Come Closer is mesmerizing when one of the protagonists does not speak, but somehow it is. It is exceptionally well-written, emotional and suspenseful with plot twists you will never be able to guess. My only small complaint is that things are resolved quickly at the end, but this is romantic suspense - not simply suspense; therefore, love conquers all in the end. (I know some will complain about the doctor/patient thing, but it is handled very well and never seems creepy. Again, it is a romance!) I wish I could say more, but I do not want to give anything away. You need to experience it yourself, and you will not regret it. Just make sure you clear your schedule so you will have plenty of time to start and finish Come Closer. ARC provided by the author’s publicist, but no one made me write this review and my opinions are honest and my own.

Come Closer is a Romantic Suspense read and for that reason the review will be short and sweet as this is the sort of book that you don't want to reveal spoilers for. I really enjoyed this book and it was excatly what it promised to be; a suspensful read that kept me guessing throughout and on the edge of my seat as I turned the pages trying to figure everything out. Brenda Rothert did a great job of setting the atmosphere and it felt edgy and atmospheric. The settings for this book were perfect. The characters were great; they were multi dimensional and well develped and I loved the build up to the romance. The H/h were backed up with some super interesting and origibal secondary chacratcers that just rounded this book off perfectly. All in all, a fab read - 4.5 stars I was provided with a copy of this book from the publisher; there was no inducement or obligation and I voluntarily left a review.

COME CLOSER by Brenda Rothert is a provocative and exhilarating read. Dr. Daniel Delgado is atoning for his past. He runs Hawthorne Hill Mental Hospital in Montana. His is drawn to his new patient, Allison Cole, wanting to do everything in his power to protect and help her. Brenda Rothert’s character development is commendable. Daniel is the perfect doctor to run Hawthorne Hill. He has a wonderful bed side manner and truly cares about his patients. He wants them to be treated fairly and with respect. I appreciated how he handled the different personalities and their issues. I love that he takes them on hikes and overnight camping trips. I also appreciated the other therapeutic outdoor activities the patients can do like gardening and horseback riding. Montana is a beautiful state it makes sense to capitalize on their property. Allison has suffered a tragedy having been strangled leaving her mute. She witnessed her twin sister Ava’s murder. She is sent to Hawthorne Hills by her aunt who was afraid she might hurt herself because of the trauma she endured. She is a complex character that intensifies throughout the story. I enjoyed Daniel and Allison’s interactions. Daniel does his best to fight his attraction to her, knowing it isn’t proper being her doctor. I like how they pass classic books back and forth to each other to read, thus, getting to know each other better. I like that he confides his imperfect past to Allison. They both equally need each other. Dr. Marcia Heaton rubbed me the wrong way. I did not like how she handled Allison. I love that Daniel calls her out on her methods. As far as mental institutions go, Hawthorne Hill is an impressive hospital. If you had to be at one, it would be a decent place to be. For the most part, the staff is great. Of course, there are a couple of exceptions, but overall it is a good establishment. The plot was amazing. Brenda Rothert did a great job of portraying the environment within the hospital, staff, and patients. In addition, there was the conspiracy behind Ava’s murder and everything that happened there. The story was full of mystery and twists. It was heartfelt and touching. I like how the novel was resolved, and it had a great ending. COME CLOSER is outside my normal reading realm, but I am a fan of Brenda Rothert, so I wanted to give it a try. I am glad I read this novel. I could not put this book down, finishing it in one day. COME CLOSER is a thought-provoking and thrilling read. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

4.5 stars This was a thrilling and suspenseful read, with a perfect slow burn forbidden romance. You will fall in love with the characters and get wrapped up in the mystery. It definitely had me guessing and on the edge of my seat until the end. The story is told from Daniel and Allison's points of views. I loved that they were both beautifully broken and imperfect people, trying to heal and move forward. Their chemistry was amazing from the start, but it was the time spent nurturing their friendship, the stolen glances, and the tender, reassuring touches that really made their romance shine. The build up definitely made the reward that much sweeter and meaningful. Come Closer deals with the subjects of mental health, loss, and addiction in such a heartfelt and honest way. First hand knowledge isn't needed to sense and experience the emotions our characters are feeling. It's a true testament to the superb writing and storytelling when you can evoke such emotion from your reader. I did feel that the last few chapters felt a little rushed compared to the others, but I understand that the story was paced this way to allow the relationship between Daniel and Allison to grow and unfold. Come Closer is honestly a book best enjoyed if you go in blind. Do yourself a favor and don't go looking for spoilers. Just let the story and characters take you on a ride you won't soon forget. *I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this book.*

Come Closer is THE perfect combination of love story and mystery. Brenda Rothert pulls out all the stops to give us what could be her very best yet! She takes an extremely sensitive subject and gives it more than just a voice. She gives it beauty. Daniel Delgado, head doctor at Hawthorne Mental Hospital, takes great pains in not falling for his silent patient, Allison Cole. However, their forbidden attraction cannot be denied. I loved that the author took her time and allowed their romance to simmer. In addition, the horrific events that lead up to Allison coming to Hawthorne stay with her in more ways than one and yet it is seamlessly written with the burgeoning love story between her and Daniel. This book is so much more than what I had envisioned. There are endless poignant scenes btw Allison and fellow patients, not to mention tense moments with less than caring staffers. There are twists and turns I did not see coming and admissions and secrets revealed that had me begging for more. Put that together with touching and very tender times btw Daniel and Allison and you've got yourself one heck of wonderful story. A sincerely gratifying read that I honestly can't recommend highly enough. It's fresh and real and heartwarming. And yet it is also mysterious and sexy and hopeful. You get all the feels tenfold. 5 huge stars!
