Come, Follow Me! - Catholic Answers for "Bible Objections" to the Church was written by a Catholic priest who died tragically in February of 2010. One of his greatest passions during the last 10 years of his life was writing this book.
In his words..."Come Follow Me may miss the real issue for many people. The contents explain Catholic teachings but it is a sad truth that there are those who avoid the faith, not for theological reasons, but because of personal experiences. They have witnessed, first hand, the problems within the Church (indifferent Catholics, poor Bible study, unkind priests, bland preaching, scandals, etc.) and are repelled. I offer this invitation to those who are not now Catholic: May you see clearly our laws but be willing, even then, to step beyond them to find God's gifts. As long as the Church includes people this side of heaven, it will need forgiveness and reform. We Catholics wish to share Christ's blessings and, at all times, be grateful for the goodness of those who come to us. We are better when we are together.
This book was written for both Catholics and Protestants and has a format similar to a dictionary. It presents a series of condensed "definitions" or clarifications for individual issues rather than a single, unified theme. None of the answers provides a complete presentation of a topic.
People of good faith may be unaware when they have inaccurate information about the Catholic Church and its practices. (Be cautious when friends say: "Those Catholics believe..").
Many people accept as true certain stories they have heard about the Catholic Church and what its members believe. Among them are:
A) Catholics believe they are saved by good works and not by Christ. Catholics,
therefore, are not Christians.
B) Catholics trust empty rituals called sacraments instead of Jesus and His
C) Catholics worship Mary and the saints. They imagine that prayers to them are
appeals to "helper gods" who have their own power to intervene on earth.
D) Catholics think they can ignore the Bible and teach anti Bible traditions.
All of those "stories" are false. This short work contains a brief response to these these and other common misunderstandings about the Catholic faith. Each response will show the profoundly biblical nature of Church teachings. The presentation is offered with respect for all who read these pages.
This book is meant to help both Catholics and other Christians by giving brief but reliable explanations for frequently misunderstood Church teachings. These pages will show a great truth - a faithful Catholic is faithfully following Christ. Many today are surprised when they come to understand that te Catholic invitation is to becoe more biblical, not less.
Come, Follow Me! has been published and made available in honor of Father Michael K. O'Rourke by those of us who knew this incredibly wonderful man. All proceeds are going to support his passion - education.
Fr. Michael O'Rourke, a Catholic priest for 40+ years, dedicated his life to loving and serving others in the name of Jesus Christ. His deepest desire ws to be a window for the Son's light.
Fr. Mike passed away on February 22,2010, following a tragic accident, while serving as the pastor of St. Mary Parish, Appleton, WI. He also served the parishes of St. Gabriel, Neenah, WI, and St. Peter, Oshkosh, WI.

This book belongs in every Church Parish Library. It is an excellent, well organized and easy to read resource for Catholics who have questions about our Church and it's teachings. It also provides important information for those who are critical of Catholicism, without really understanding our history and traditions.
For those of you who have Protestant friends, who are questioning the teachings and authority of the Catholic Church, this book is indispensible. Many of our Protestant brothers and sisters have been misled into believing that the Church doesn't follow the Bible. This is simply not true. But many Catholics do not know how to defend the Church against this false accusation. This book WILL teach you how. The rich traditions of the Church's use of the Bible -- the inspired word of God -- are thoroughly explained in this work. If you want a deeper understanding of the Catholic Faith, with respect to its traditions of the Bible, this is the book.
This is a very easy to read, simple to understand book that has become an invaluable resource for me. Answered many of my own questions while enabling me to answer many questions from others as well. Highly Recommended!
