Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal - School Library Journal
K-Gr 1-A young boy in a rural village in Zimbabwe learns patience. Blessing and his brothers are in need of a new room to sleep in, so Baba is going to town to earn money to buy a door, some windows, and a roof. Baba tells his son that he'll be back when the new chicks hatch. The boys and their mother make bricks while he's gone. As they work, Blessing tries several times to hurry the hen's progress, and Mai (mother) repeatedly reminds him that some things must happen in their own time. The book has the mood of traditional African stories written to impart wisdom and to help insure smooth transitions in life. Bent's illustrations are rich in color but are of average quality. All in all, this book is nothing special.-Barbara Osborne Williams, Queens Borough Public Library, Jamaica, NY
