Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Eleanor Heldrich
In this book, there are 27 merry couplets in alphabetic order accompanying the amusing illustrations of animals and birds, all of which end with the final word hidden under a flap. "S is for skunk," for instance, "who squirts his smelly spray on unsuspecting Rufus, who just came out to ..." Lift the flap and the word is "play." The illustration is of a curious skunk looking in surprise at a mustard-colored dog surrounded by grey squiggles of what must be a very nasty odor. Then, there is "J is for jaguar, who has a lot of spots. Get out your pencil and connect the ..." The jaguar has a monkey on his back who his drawing lines between the spots in the jaguar's fur. On the very last page, surrounded by some of the animals in the book, there is another rhyme to suggest you might enjoy reading the book again. Reviewer: Eleanor Heldrich
