Thanks to rescue advocacy groups and media groups, most Americans now know about the plight of greyhound racing dogs. Comet's Tale is the story of one abandoned greyhound, but its account extends far beyond the average rescue story because its author was himself rescued. Steven Wolf was a successful Nebraska lawyer when a severe spinal condition forced him to retire and move to Arizona. His problems, however, were far from over. Heavily medicated, his body still wracked with pain, he decided to adopt a foster greyhound. The encounter could not have been more fortuitous: Comet was not only an affectionate companion; he was a helpful service dog even before he was trained to be one. Wolf credits him with bringing him to a sane and measure existence. A story any pet owner can love.
