Overview

This book offers short, stand-alone readings designed to help us cultivate compassion and awareness amid the challenges of daily living. More than a collection of thoughts for the day, Comfortable with Uncertainty offers a progressive program of spiritual study, leading the reader through essential concepts, themes, and practices on the Buddhist path.

Comfortable with Uncertainty does not assume prior knowledge of Buddhist thought or practice, making it a perfect introduction to Chödrön's teaching. It features the most essential and stirring passages from Chödrön's previous books, exploring topics such as lovingkindness, meditation, mindfulness, "nowness," letting go, and working with fear and other painful emotions. Through the course of this book, readers will learn practical methods for heightening awareness and overcoming habitual patterns that block compassion.

Don't read unless you are willing to be changed!

This was my first introduction to "something" that was missing in life. It is comprised of short writings which are full of powerful ponderings. During this day in time, this book can steady your rocking boat with the insights that Pema Chodron offers her readers as she shares what is important in life. It is very interesting what she says about the storylines we create for ourselves and how they cloud our vision of what we are all about.
This is a great book to offer to those who are searching for something. It fits in with any religious beliefs and there those who have no religious affiliation. It is a beautifully written guide to living on our planet. I hope you will enjoy your read.

    I Also Recommend:

    Perfect Daily Read. Go-to book.

Simply a wonderful, thoughtful compilation in short 1-2 page chapters. Kind of drink it in everyday. If I could only take one book with me on a long journey, this would definitely be a contender.

    simple and easy to understand.

Pema has this special way of writing that is so simple that really helps you understand not only the book, but also yourself! This book has short teachings of no more than one and a half pages. They are easy to understand and all you have to do is start training. It has nothing to do with religion so anybody can read it and it is definitely going to be helpful for every day's life.

    Short readings, all day thoughts

This book contains 108 short excerpts from her larger collection. Like how to tame a wild elehant, each days reading will pull into the quiet moments of your day when you need something to exercise your spiritual mind.

Fearlessness and Compassion depend on spirituality!

Fearlessness and Compassion depend on spirituality, so, in my opinion, it will be better to read books about it. A lot of people in Western Europe, for instance, realized it and do it! i think it will be a tendency. Because mojority don't understand that spirituality has a lot of meanings. For instance, in book of Anatoliy Obraztsov a crossing or the drop's history I've found ways to get fearlessness, and I suppose exist a lot of books what can help people to get it too.

    more from this reviewer

    Cool little book!

The book is organized into little chapters that convey an idea or teaching in a very conscise format. I'm not an expert in buddhism and to tell you the truth most of it is a mystery to me.Pema Chodron relates buddhist teachings in a manner that a Westerner, like myself, understands and finds useful. I'll be reading more from Ms.Chodron.
