Comics Bedpan
Comic's Bedpan is a lobotomy patient's guide to joke writing, performing, and selling - in other words, anyone can do it! It is a comprehensive and often humorous step by step approach to the art of joke writing and performing.

Does a blank piece of paper terrify you? This may be the only "how to" joke writing book that deals with the problem of writer's block. Freud wrote an article called "The Comic and the Subconscious". In it he theorized that "Wit" comes from the same place in the subconscious as dreams. Which is ironic when you think of two common expressions, "dry wit" and "wet dream". But I digress. The point is that the exercises in this book are designed to free those funny creative ideas from your subconscious.

It works! It's been tried and tested by hundreds of my joke writing students. I am no comic genius, yet I was able to write my own material, as well as sell jokes to Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield.

If you've ever wanted to get on stage and tell jokes, either just for fun, or to make money this book teaches you everything you'll need to know to do it. You'll learn how to write jokes and put common themed jokes together to form "bits". You'll learn how to create segues to string bits together to form your act.

You'll also learn how to deal with hecklers. Even the big name comics have had them, and sooner or later you may too. We have 55 of the best battle tested heckler put down lines included, with instructions about the proper usage and timing of heckler lines.

Other topics include how to generate free publicity for yourself and how to create a press package that will get you paid bookings. We'll also cover where you can go to perform stand-up and what to expect. You'll get a behind the scene peek at what's it like to be a comic, and what you can expect once you become one.

Dozens of anecdotes will keep your entertained as you learn this exciting, sometimes terrifying craft.

We have priced the book very cheap so it is available for anyone. It's based on 20 years of experience as a comedy writer, performer, and teacher.

About the Author

Stu Cassell went to his first open mike night when he was in his twenties. Within 3 months club owners were booking him for pay. Within a year he was the opening act in comedy clubs across the country for headliners like Jim Carey, Bob Saget, and Gary Shandling.

He sold jokes to Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, who featured some of his material on his album, Rappin Rodney. He appeared on the Mainstage Showcase of the National Association of Campus Activities, and was one of the founders of the Detroit Comedy Society and LA Comedy Repetoire.

He has appeared in over 300 nightclubs and colleges in the U.S. and Canada, and has written articles for the Detroit Free Press. In 2011 he was a columnist for Highlands Today, and is credited with having created the bumper sticker: "No one ever got a hernia from carrying a grudge."

While living in Los Angeles he appeared at the Comedy Store and Improv and taught joke writing, performing, and selling to hundreds of aspiring comics. His biggest claim to fame is that before George Lopez became famous he once helped him move a couch (George lived down the street from him in Mission Hills).

He still occasionally performs stand-up and is currently living in beautiful Avon Park, Florida with his wife Mary Rose, and dog Jack.
