If forgiving your ex-husband was easy, everybody would do it. Brent had cheated on Dayna and coldly said goodbye to her seven long years ago—dashing her hopes of having children or growing old with the love of her life. Working hard to make herself successful as a hospital executive, Dayna has moved on, finding comfort in a new dating relationship with a faith-filled colleague, Warren. But when Brent resurfaces on her doorstep at just the wrong time, Dayna’s heart threatens to come unglued. Why is Brent asking for forgiveness now? And why are he and his new wife, Tamara, interested in reconciliation with Dayna? The unbelievable answers in Coming Home begin to surface as Brent boldly asks Dayna to support him at the most crucial time of his life. While Tamara’s heart brims with guilt, both women will discover what it means to reach beyond pain and baggage to love unconditionally, leaving the consequences to God.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
In her seventh novel, Adams (Dreams That Won’t Let Go) tells a story about the importance of forgiveness in relationships centered around Dayna, a hospital executive who struggles to remain steadfastly devoted to her current boyfriend once her ex-husband Brent reappears in her life with foreboding news. Vivid characters and scene setting are strengths of the narrative, as Dayna’s family and friends help her navigate complicated emotional territory with the help of prayer. Dialogue overly heavy with backstory and clichéd descriptions of feelings and thoughts (“he made her heart soar”), however, weaken the novel overall. But the book’s plot pivots quickly forward as characters face the challenges of blending past with the present, with the overarching premise that God has the power to heal any wounds, restore relationships to their proper place in couples’ lives, and help flawed humans make peace with themselves along the way. Life is going well for Dayna Wilson. She has a beautiful home, a dream job in management at a prestigious medical center, and her probably soon-to-become fiance, Warren, is the vice president of marketing at the same medical center.

Dayna has made peace with God over her divorce and forgiven her former husband, Brent, for cheating on her. Or so she thinks until he shows up on her doorstep with a dozen red roses, apologizing for hurting her and destroying their marriage. He says he and his wife (the other woman) want to take her out to dinner. He says he has something important to tell her.

Then Brent steps a little too close and she slaps him just as her date arrives. She tells him to leave. But the story doesn't end there. He has not only somehow found out where she lives and works, but he's also managed to find her email.

The email he sends again says he really wants her to go to dinner with him and his wife, Tamara. Again, he says he has something too important to tell her to drop the subject.

Finally, Dayna agrees to meet with them. What Brent has to say stops her cold, changes her future, and threatens her relationship with Warren.

    What Would You Do?

Wow! This is an interesting thought provoking read. What would you do in Dayna's place? She seems to have it all ....great job, great friendships, and in a relationship that seems to be leading to marriage.
Then all of a sudden there is her former husband, who dumped her for another woman, at her door! Had to ask what would I do?? Very, very hard question. She has moved on and with the help of God has forgiven, but now it is in her face.
Don't know how I felt about Warren, her new man, he was rather unsupportive at times. This is a real page turner of a book, and I enjoyed the story. Made you feel like you are in the real world, not a fictional book.
Throughout the book there is a theme of Forgiveness and giving everything over to God. Loved the different relationships here and how they followed their Lord.

I received this book from Tywebbin Virtual Events and the Publisher Zondervan, and was not required to give a positive review.
