Coming to Terms: The German Hill Country of Texas

by Wendy Watriss, Fred Baldwin, Lawrence Goodwyn

Editorial Reviews

Chandler Davidson
"Our best photographers, from Mathew Brady to Russell Lee, have been social historians who happened to be good with a camera. Wendy Watriss and Fred Baldwin are in this intellectual tradition. Looking at their remarkable pictures of the Texas Hill Country, one is struck by their grasp of place, time, feeling—of the impalpable core inside the social integument, which we call culture. This is a fine and deep exploration of the Texas Germans, given added depth by Lawrence Goodwyn''s essay."—Chandler Davidson
