Overview

Sabrina Stone: elegant society wife, loving mother of a serverely disabled child, tragic portrait of a woman in pain. There are the impressions she conjures for investigator Derek McGill in their first meeting on the rooftop terrace of her Manhattan home. As for Sabrina, it is in their introduction that she senses a deep caring in this man. Sabrina next meets Derek in a maximum security prison--after he is convicted of murder. When curiosity and proximity bid her visit, she finds a hardened man, yet one who retains a germ of caring for her and her son. Sustained by that, Sabrina must make decisions that no wife or mother should ever have to make...and begin to fight for a wronged man's revenge.

Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
Commitments was written during Delinsky's transition period as she moved from straight romance to the broader arena of women's fiction. As such, the story has a strong romance at its core but attempts to deal with other issues as well. Sabrina Stone's son was born severely brain damaged, for example. Investigative reporter Derek McGill was wrongly convicted of manslaughter and sent to prison in a plot masterminded by a very powerful enemy. The work cascades from human interest to self-discovery to romance cum mystery, passable plots all, but in the end it is too confusing and ultimately unsatisfying. Joyce Bean's narrative contribution makes the tale bearable; she moves easily among the characters and adds emotional depth and tension to the dialog, but she cannot overcome the novel's flaws. Only hardcore Delinsky fans will really enjoy this. Libraries are better off purchasing her more recently copyrighted works.DJodi L. Delinsky's Commitments was a pure joy to read. I was drawn to the powerful romance of Sabrina and Derek and the anguish that Sabrina felt for her son. Not only did the plot intrigued me but the love that bound Sabrina to Derek. Delinsky was able to capture all the emotions that a person can feel when being pushed to the limits: of being loved, of belonging, and of being true to oneself.

You can see visually in your minds eye the settings and the emotion. Her books are awesome and I recommend this work. I enjoyed it. Once again Barbara Delinsky writes a truly touching romanitic novel. The read cannot help but be touched by the inner struggles of Sabrina, as she cares for her son Nicky. The love she shows him is truly appreciated by the mother in me. While Sabrina and Derek struggle to resolve a wrong that has been done to Derek, their lives face hurdles and problems. This book is another great touching Barbara Delinsky novel.

Good story but too drawn out. Could have been told in half the amount of pages.

This is the first book that I have read by this author. It was fantastic. There was romance, mystery, and I thought you could really feel the love between Sabrina and Derek. I definitely recommend this book and can't wait to read others by this author.
