I tried to love this book, I really did. I honestly enjoy good BDSM books (and I never thought I'd admit THAT openly, though I don't hide it much). There was some good D/s action going, but a few things just marred my enjoyment of that element of it. 1) I really didn't like the fact that Damien left Poppy after the initial scene with no aftercare. Seriously. It was one of the few things she was very VERY clear about she needed if she were going to be in the sub role. Yes, I get WHY he did it, but I really felt he could have at least gone back in person. It was good for setting up the trust issues that played out over the course of the rest of the book, but this scene jarred for me. 2) Poppy's supposed switchiness. I also understand that a switch may want to be submissive to a particular dom, but except for one instance, Poppy's switchy side never came out and I really feel too big a deal was made of her being a switch if the side wasn't going to emerge more than it did.
I enjoyed the suspense part of this, with the author not shying away from indulging in the villain's truly evil nature. Emilio - he was quite a piece of work and I enjoyed the storyline that dealt with him.
I'm not sure I completely bought into the romance between Damien and Poppy. He could certainly be sweet and tried to make up for his initial error (biggie that it was), but something about it just left me flat.
Poppy's family - now there are pieces of work for you. I can't imagine living life in a commune-type world, but I liked the view of it that Ms. Bristol gives. Her mother...yeah, there are no words for my opinion of Poppy's bigoted mother.
Damien's family - awwww, I love me his mom, grandma, and aunt. They definitely were part of what turned Damien into such a good (usually) man, and I enjoyed seeing their lack of hesitation to accept and love Poppy despite the black/white differences.
So - it was a decent read, but I have my hesitations in recommending it, as I've made clear. Still, for some good BDSM, I think it's worth checking out.

The story is a mystery/adventure with drug dealers, DEA agents and revenge tied up with a romance between two sexually adventurous people who meet at a weekend retreat. I have to admit the d/s* theme often leaves this poor preacher’s daughter a little red faced and uncomfortable. While I understand the lifestyle from a psychological standpoint, the actual descriptions of scenes often cause me to pause and take a break from reading. COMMITTED does contain pretty explicit scenes between Poppy and Damien as they work through their relationship.
The best part to me was the fact that our heroes have fun in their chosen lifestyle. There’s a reason aficionados of s/m called it “play.” That’s because they do play, laughing and enjoying themselves as one would while watching a comedy movie together. Sex is common but not required of the participants and I liked that aspect of the story. Just because a person likes to be spanked does not mean they plan on having sex with the spanker. I’ve always felt that was the case in real life and Sidney Bristol makes it real.
The book is full of action both in and out of bed as Damien must decide between his feelings for Poppy and his job while Poppy must figure out where she stands as a d/s player and in her relationship with Damien. Sidney Bristol paints those thoughts and feelings well throughout the book. The story moves right along and supporting characters fit in well. Her descriptions and explanation of the true nature of the d/s lifestyle are great.
So, would I recommend it? Sure. It’s graphic but the story works well and I had a good time reading it. It’s not for the faint at heart though; the scenes are raw and real to the uninformed but Sidney Bristol makes it work.

The idea of a switch caught my interest from the start. To see a dominant like Damien submit to Poppy is hot. I would have liked to see more of that, it seems that throughout most of the book, Poppy submitted to Damien. The BDSM scenes were well written and erotic and the added danger from Damien's job made the book exciting. The supporting characters, including Poppy's cats, are great and I hope to read more about them in future books.

This is a great story about a switch and a dominant. Poppy is a switch and has no desire to be a submissive. Damien is a dominant and doesn't want to be a submissive until he meets Poppy. While at House Surrender, Poppy is looking for something a little different and Damien wants her to play with him. They are pulled towards each other. But before their first night together, he is called away by work and he leaves Poppy a note and his phone number. She burns both, if he can't tell her face to face then she will not waste her time with him. But her mind and heart are fighting to think about Damien and her heart seems to be winning. When they meet again a few weeks later, she can't look at him, she doesn't want to be pulled into his spell again. But he will not give up. This story will cover BDSM, a drug dealer, a DEA agent and a kidnapping. The suspense of the story will keep you on the edge of your seat but the love story will keep your heart in it. This is a first for me by Sidney Bristol and I loved it, can't wait to read more from her.

Can a switch become a submissive? For the right man, a woman might willingly fall into the role.
Committed, Drug of Desire is an erotic contemporary BDSM romance. DEA Special Agent Damien is a Dom, and Poppy a Switch who enjoys indulging in both her submissive and dominant sides. The two meet at a private BDSM retreat, and Poppy quickly falls for Damien during their heated encounter. Only his job interrupts their play and though Damien leaves Poppy behind, she doesn’t leave his mind.
The two soon reconnect, and Damien and Poppy push boundaries as their relationship deepens and grows. There are some hot sex scenes for the reader who adores an erotic story, but also plenty of intrigue and suspense as a criminal in the underworld Damien is chasing turns the tables and decides to come after Poppy instead. Danger rears its ugly head, and Damien is torn as he tries to save Poppy.
This is a well written book with fun and interesting characters, and I was captivated from the beginning to the end. My thanks goes to the author for a wonderful read.

Damien and Poppy spend one kinky sex filled night together but when Damien leaves without so much as a good by Poppy is hurt. A few weeks later they accidently meet up again and Damien is determined to have Poppy again. Damien is torn between his obsession with bringing down a drug cartel and winning back Poppy. I enjoyed this book a lot. The sexiness between Damien and Poppy is off the charts and there is plenty of action in this wonderful story. My only issue is that if Poppy is a switch I would think she would have a little more confidence in herself. Overall a wonderful read! Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. This book has it all. It was almost like 2 books in one. We start out with hot BDSM action, so hot it's on fire. The chemistry between
them is out of this world and even though it's a book of fiction it feels so real and plausible. Then we start to see the action. The story
unfolds into a thrill a minute ride. Then we move back to the hotness and it all rounds out with the action taking over and keeping us on
the edge of our seats until the very end. This could have easily become an overwhelming book but the side characters keep everything
grounded and keep it from getting too out of control. The writing is really incredible, it just flows and unites two completely different
stories into one amazing, spellbinding adventure and romance.
