Common Cents gives average Americans the fundamental knowledge they need to make smart decisions on family finances, investments, jobs, even health care and outsourcing. Now available in paperback, it brings into focus the hot-button economic, social, and political issues that dominate the front pages of newspapers—especially during these trying financial times. I Also Recommend:

Dr. Kimelman Describes Basic Economic/Banking/Finance Concepts

The book is of good use if you need a basis of knowledge of the concepts of economics, banking, and finance. Dr. Kimelman does not tackle topics that I thought the cover would suggest (only US policy was covered). The author also seemed to favor free markets until the end when she seemed to want the US to move to a system more towards the idea of socialized medicine (even though she declared the only solution to be found in free markets- it confused me). The book covered mostly non-political topics until the last chapters of the book when she praised Volcker and briefly talked about globalisation.

The biggest critique I have of the book is that the author writes the book as if she is writing to an audience of teenage girls. It is full of terrible jokes and quips. I realize the book was to be in layman terms, but it would have been much easier to read without her not-so-funny comments.

Great Read! Explains whats going on during the financial crisis

Everyone should read this. Far more fluid in language than 'Freakonomics.' I really enjoyed the commentary on the oil situation and the financial crisis we currently endure.

    Great Introduction to Economics

'Common Cents,' really does bring sense to how the economy works. It breaks down economics into simple steps that can be easily understood. As a college professor, I would hghly recommend this book for an Economics 101 class. Its a fun, intelligent read, and gives the reader a clear outline of how the economy really works.
