Pete Zimmer leads a quintet with Toru Dado and Rick Germanson taking turns on piano through a conventional but well-played modern hard bop/post-bop set. All of the songs are originals except a feature for the trio on "Darn That Dream," with six including two versions of "Common Man" being by Zimmer. Some of the tunes are based on familiar chord changes, but most are more original.
