Overview

Bookstore shelves are crowded with books offering advice to college students, yet—astonishingly—none of these books offer needed advice to the majority of college students in the United States … those attending community college. Of the approximately 21 million full- and part-time college students, 11 million attend community colleges.

The Community College Guide aims to help fill this huge gap. The authors of this book have decades of experience between them as professors and administrators in both two-year and four-year colleges, have written numerous books for a general readership and thoroughly understand what community college students need to know to succeed in their college careers.

From how to apply to community colleges to what to expect from your courses, from the truth about what you’ll pay to actual financial aid opportunities, The Community College Guide offers a wealth of information for the millions of American students who desire higher education at the community level.

Editorial Reviews

VOYA - Robbie L. Flowers
Navigating the road of community college is not the most intuitive process, but this book serves as a map to making it through, from the application process to securing employment. The authors clearly outline the book in the table of contents, taking the reader from start to finish. Key areas addressed are handling difficult professors, taking ESL and remediation courses, the pitfalls of procrastination, and test-taking tips. There are also helpful hints about financial aid, and the authors labor to really flesh out the subject. There are all kinds of tidbits pulled out and highlighted throughout this offering. Sometimes, however, the highlighted areas become a bit distracting, as they appear quite frequently. The book is easy to read and can be accessed by a wide audience. The authors handle a serious subject with some humor and a lot of good advice, including the "classroom commandments," which are crucial for any student who is trying to start on the right foot. There is something for everyone in this essential purchase whether fresh out of high school, a student from abroad, or an adult returning to college. It will be both a handy reference tool and a treasure for circulation. Reviewer: Robbie L. Flowers
