Editorial Reviews

Criticas
These brief but practical guides cover a variety of topics for students and professionals, from study, reading, and writing techniques to public speaking skills. The guides are readable and well organized, featuring key words in bold and summary boxes of tips and important points. In Como estudiar, Moreira recommends using punctuation and other symbols to highlight critical information on a page circling dates and outlining names, for instance and provides an illustrated example for readers. In Como hablar en publico, Fen ndez breaks down the basics of speaking in public, giving useful tips on how to prepare the speech and keep ideas organized during the presentation. He also touches on the major differences between addressing a small group versus a large audience, and cautions speakers to avoid taking additional questions from audience members who have already posed very lengthy questions. Speakers must also make sure the Q&A period flows smoothly to avoid losing the audience's favor. The topics discussed in the guides can be applied easily to developing class assignments and presentations. This affordable series is recommended for high school and community college libraries, and bookstores serving Spanish-speaking students. Other topics include reporting, writing TV scripts, and speaking on TV and radio.
