Companions Nich'ooni [NOOK Book]

Overview

This is the story of two young men put together as companions by Mormon Church powers in an isolated and largely ignored corner of Arizona. Both, according to dogma, are dual beings, bringers of the holy Word to the Navajo people, and homosexuals, monsters in disguise, murderers of their own posterity. Overview

This is the story of two young men put together as companions by Mormon Church powers in an isolated and largely ignored corner of Arizona. Both, according to dogma, are dual beings, bringers of the holy Word to the Navajo people, and homosexuals, monsters in disguise, murderers of their own posterity. It is a tale of their fight for self-recognition and ultimately, self-determination in a society that either ignores their existence or vehemently wishes them dead. It is also a myriad of other fights, other disasters between people, organizations, traditions and nature itself, swirling around them in a macabre dance of destruction and death. The difference between these unknown people and events and the world at large is scale and the essential things individuals have in their favor against survival of the fittest attitudes and realities: the ability to think, to analyze, and to make choices for themselves.

Meet the Author

Jed A. Bryan: With a B.A. in English and History, a M.A. in English and creative writing (poetry-- creative thesis), both from Brigham Young University, as well as what he refers to as the questionably honorific” A.B.D. (all but dissertation) for a doctorate in contemporary fiction from the University of Utah. Jed has spent years teaching English and creative writing and over a decade writing, editing, and developing educational testing materials and computer programs. This is Jed’s third published novel. “Companions Nich’ooni” recently came to the attention of some good movie production people, and Jed is hoping to see this work make it to the big screen. (Third time could be a winner.)
Jed refers to himself as a jack of all arts, as there are few he hasn’t tried. From boy soprano performing church and party solos at three and tap dancing at five to composing a full-length Broadway style gay musical revue and a few hundred songs as well as poetry, painting, sculpture, and, of course, writing novels. He has lived art. He is presently immersed in hand-painted photomontage art.
Jed’s One Pure Truth: “Give your all. If you succeed, it’s just an additional wrinkle.”
Jed lives in Nevada, where he continues to explore the possibilities.

Books inspire, teach, make you laugh, cry or be angry. This boo

Books inspire, teach, make you laugh, cry or be angry. This book covered all the bases. I read the book in less than a day and experienced a wide range of emotions. It must be a good book. I would definitely reccommend it to all.

For anyone who is, or is not, familiar with the Mormon religion

For anyone who is, or is not, familiar with the Mormon religion and it's policy of sending it's young men at the peak of their sexuality on Missions, paired with another young man 24/7 and told to "LOVE" him.
For anyone who does, or does not, know of the Mormon attitude of hatred toward homosexuals.
This book is a revelation and a wonderful read.
The characters are believalbe in their sturggle with the church, their faith, the Navajo culture and the very real conflicts they face as a result of what they experience together in this clash of existances.
I highly recommend "Companions". It is a story you will not soon forget.

A page turner!!! I couldn't put it down!

Having once been a missionary myself while struggling with being gay and a Mormon, I can relate to this story on many levels.
Now, being a gay Mormon dad of 4 children and having been excommunicated for choosing to not continue living "the lie of being a straight man", I recommend this wonderful story to others who have a similar back ground and have "come out".

There is NO content in the NOOK book

Beware NOOK buyers - there is no content in the book. Only the cover. I purchased this book awhile ago and when I went to read it I discovered that there is no content. I've requested a refund and hope the publishers will be able to provide the digital content soon.
