Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly

In her 11th novel, Monroe (She Had It Coming ; God Don't Play ) takes on the music industry, walking in the Jimmy Choos of Teri Stewart, Eclectic Record's hardworking executive publicity director. Much to the chagrin of her best friend/assistant Nicole, Teri fills her empty social schedule with work, pounding away at projects through holidays, meals and whatever else might keep her from finishing the job. Secretly, though, Teri admits it's lonely at the top; enter handsome, influential DJ Harrison Starr. While staying on his good side is only smart business-ensuring plenty of airplay for Eclectic's artists-the chemistry between them suggests there's more than business in the couple's future. When they do get together, however, their professional roles, a cast of interesting characters (Carla, the psychic psychologist; Yvette, the social climber) and, naturally, a secret from the past may mean their happily-ever-after is more like a one-hit wonder. Swift, salty writing and steamy sex scenes will keep readers cheering for the couple, and a twisting plot will keep them turning pages. (Mar.)

Kirkus Reviews
Will or won't sexy, successful 29-year-old Teri get back with sexy, successful Harrison?Very little happens in Monroe's latest (She Had It Coming, 2008, etc.), which inhabits the high-rolling world of Teri Stewart, executive publicity director for Eclectic Records. It's a world of bawdy language, parties and occasional business, in which sexual matters tend to dominate. Teri has had no intimate relationships for the last six months, which is inexplicable given that she is still madly attracted to her most recent boyfriend, DJ Harrison Starr, and that he fancies her too. The pair keep meeting at parties, both are single and nothing stands in their way other than the plot's insistence on misunderstandings and missed opportunities. Trivial subplots involving Teri's office politics and her best friend/secretary Nicole, who is also sexually frustrated but unlike Teri hasn't stopped playing the field, also fill some pages. Crude and raunchy, the story eventually delivers its much delayed but entirely predictable gratification.

    SOMETHING'S MISSING

NOT SURE WHAT HAPPEN HERE. I LOVE MARY MONROE'S WRITING STYLE. BUT SOMETHING WAS MISSING WITH THIS NOVEL. I KEPT LOOKING FOR THE NOVEL TO REALLY TAKE OFF, BUT IT NEVER DID. TERI HAS EVERTHING EXCEPT A MAN IN HER LIFE. WHEN SHE SEES AN OLD FLAME, DJ HARRISON STARR SHE STARTS TO HAVE FEELINGS FOR HIM AGAIN. BUT BEFORE THEY CAN HOOK BACK UP THEY MUST DEAL WITH NASTY YVETTE, AND GET SOMETHINGS UNDER CONTROL. YVETTE MUST HAVE REALLY LOST HER MIND THERE FOR A WHILE TO ACTUALLY DO THAT LAST STUNT. GIRLFRIEND MUST BE LOOKING FOR A BUTT WHIPPING.

I would not recommend this book! As much as I loved her other work, this one not so much

It did not hold my interest, I was not excited to get back to my nook to finish reading it. Usually I read on the train, and can tune other people conversations out. But not this time, I can recall my fellow train riders entire conversation about her no good boyfriend

    Sorry, but...

I just could not get into this book. I usually can't wait for one of Mary's books, but this one was a sleeper.

Not the finest hour for Mary...

I have been a fan of Mary's work for a few years now, having read about 8 of her titles. I was excited when I saw a new title, as I was hoping her writing stayed relevant and exciting with the times, but I am dissapointed to say this book is a huge let down. It was as if it wasn't even her work. Typically I can't wait to finish anything she writes, but this dragged out, had one too many needless charactars and subplots. It was very, very hard to get through. I maybe got 1/4th of the way through, put the book down and forgot about it for two months... only when I moved to a new home did I find the book and decide to give it another whirl. I commited to finishing, but it was tough.

Not her best hour! Not at all. Mary come back!

    Can't Remember!!!!

Not sure where the story was going, with this one. I'll chalk it up to writers block.. Mary normally delivers PAGE TURNERS... But I'm still a huge fan.. and will read everything she puts out.
