I've been a vegan for 20 years, so I've accumulated a lot of veg

I've been a vegan for 20 years, so I've accumulated a lot of vegan cookbooks, but this is one of my all-time favorites. I LOVE the simple chocolate tofu pie recipe (called "Karin's Incredible Chocolate Pie") and the peanut butter coffee cake recipe is great too. The Thanksgiving and Christmas recipes are helpful and I've made some year after year. The book shows how far we've come--I no longer need a mock chicken gravy recipe because I can find one in most grocery or health food stores, or at least a mix, but many recipes are still classic! And yummy!

    Animal-friendly AND user-friendly!

I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to have an array of easy, healthy, vegan recipes at their fingertips. As someone who could burn water, I really appreciate that these recipes not only animal-friendly, they're family-friendly and beginner-friendly too! A must-have for anyone who wants to enjoy delicious, easy-to-make foods that are kind to the body, earth, and animals.

    Vegan Dream

I have a library of veggie cook books. This is by far the most used and best loved book on my shelf. It's ingredient lists are simple, it has typical american fare favorites, and you can use it for everything from pie crust to main dishes. The BEST book around. PETA gets it right!!!

    AMAZED SO FAR!!

So far, I am impressed and amazed at the recipes I have tried in this book. I grew up on meat and dairy, but decided to become a vegan two years ago and have recently become frustrated b/c I miss the taste of some of the foods I was accustomed to eating my whole life. I was looking for a book with fun, simple, and familiar food recipes, that was entirely vegan, and that also supported the cause. I found it in the Compassionate Cook. Let me tell you...it has been awhile since I've had french toast made the old-fashioned way (with eggs), but serve me up the vegan version and ask if I care! It is out of this world delicious!! Then I tried this simpler than simple salad dressing one evening made from a few common ingredients and was equally blown away!! If you're unfamiliar with vegan cooking, or just starting out, or frustrated with the complexity it sometimes seems to expel, or have kids and want them to experience a little of the american taste w/o the cruelty or cholesterol, this is the book for you! Good Luck!

    The best cookbook ever............

This is by far the best cookbook that I have ever used. In fact, my family has gotten so much use out of it, we are on our third copy! The others got worn out! It also helps to spread the word that you can eat wonderful food without harming other beings!
