Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Dianne Ochiltree
Fans of the popular “Team Cheer” series will enjoy this fourth installment. In a story-telling style that brings the “Dork Diaries” to mind, this entertaining paperback chapter book appeals to the girl reader. The narrative is a diary, too, and the fun begins from the ‘hand-drawn’ end papers. Gaby is the only girl in a family of boys and she is a girlie-girl extraordinaire. Dance, cheerleading and fashion are her passions! When Marisa, the new girl at Gaby’s dance studio, notices her ‘dancing queen’ moves she invites Gaby to join a new all-star dance team, Energy Xtreme. With more of her time now tied-up with her new, all-star friends, how are Gaby’s old, cheerleading squad friends at Greenview Middle School taking it? Let’s just say Faith, Brooke, and Lissa are putting the green in Greenview…and testing their friendship. This fun, fast-moving story is told in up-to-the-minute, pre-teen language. All the emotional moments ring true. Readers do not have to be on cheerleading and dance squads to get caught up in the drama. Short chapters, large print, notes and doodles in the margins and footnotes, all contribute to the immediacy of the text. A fun read! Reviewer: Dianne Ochiltree; Ages 8 to 11.
