School Library Journal - School Library Journal
Gr 4-7-Each book covers the basic rules of competition, training or exercises, and opportunities for female athletes. All three titles include a discussion of nutrition and the problems of "overtraining" that is lacking in many other sports offerings. Each author addresses common worries of players in competition, stressing teamwork, even though track and field is both an individual as well as a team sport. Glossy color photographs enhance the texts. However, in Soccer, George Catlin's painting of Native Americans playing a sport would best illustrate the game of lacrosse, rather than soccer. One soccer Web site is especially noteworthy for the lead article on the pros and cons of college recruiting.
