    Great reference material.

I have had this book for several years and have just about worn it out.
That is why I bought it as a nook book. Have always found something about any of the old TV series. Settled a lot of arguements.

I am now the proud owner of the ninth edition after having the 7

I am now the proud owner of the ninth edition after having the 7th & 8th editions. We find it most useful when you watch something and you ask the question where I seen them before and you look them up in the index and you find all the previous shows they have appeared in. It is a must for anyone who likes watching television and wants to know more about what they have just watched. We even find it useful down here in New Zealand

    So disappointed

I just bought the nook version of this book and was very excited. I have purchased many of the other editions over the years. Much to my great disappointment after buying this version, I could not get it to open because of some kind of error. Then I come to find out that it is nt returnable because it is a nook book. Well, ?I think this is grossly unfair because I previewed the sample before my purchase and that worked fine. Is there anyone who can help me or anything I can do to fix this problem? I really wanted this book. thank you.

The Best TV Series source ever !

I have not found any other source so complete as this one; anything you want it, you'll find here such as: the primetime schedule, the longest nrunning series, top rated programs by season, index by actor/actress, etc....
It is all you need for TV shows information.

Once great, now eclipsed by the internet

For decades, the gold standard reference book on prime-time television was Tim Brooks and Earle Marsh's "Complete Guide to Prime Time TV Shows." Updated every five years or so, it had a listing for virtually every TV show that aired on a prime-time network (including the long-defunct DuMont network, an also-ran from the early days of the medium). Whether famous or obscure, every show had a listing, complete with cast list, time slots, and a synopsis of what the show was about and its cultural impact (if applicable).

Sadly, this book is a prime example of how print reference materials have been left in the dust by the internet. Besides the fact that this book was out of date the day they published it, there's the further problem that since the late 1990s, original TV programming has exploded on cable, yet Brooks and Marsh have done a half-baked job of covering it. High-profile cable series like "The Sopranos" and "Sex and the City" get regular entries, but other shows such as "Deadwood," "Extras," and "Oz" are relegated to a list in their article on the HBO network. In a time when cable shows typically get more critical acclaim and more awards than their network counterparts, this is unacceptable treatment. Frankly, I can get more thorough information off Wikipedia and the Internet Movie Database for free.

"The Complete Directory to Prime Time..." remains an outstanding resource for obscure shows of yesteryear, but it can no longer be considered the thorough resource it was 15-20 years ago. Sadly, my advice is to pass on this book.

    Informative, but lacking

Very detailed, particularly about plot lines, this book is very helpful when it comes to trivia or general knowledge about television. When I read the passages about my favorite shows, I was disappointed by the character descriptions. It seemed as if they were written very basically, as if after watching only the pilot episode. I wanted more than first impressions.

Always A Good One To Have on Hand

I have owned several of the past issues of this book. It has helped me solve those puzzling questions such as 'Who played who in what show?', helped me win many Trivia Pursuit games, and even kept boredom away when I needed some light but interesting reading. I would suggest this book to any true lover of modern entertainment history.
