The author did a good job in giving explanations of the issues, like some technical terms and software. Having read this book, I get some knowledge of technical issues that I did not know before, such as the issues of Uninterruptible Power Supply, Log files, the differences of ISDN, DSL, T-1, T-3, and optical carrier connectivity, and have more understanding of such the issues that I had little knowledge before as database management system, the web server operating system, and firewalls. What I like in this book is that it tried to provide many URLs related to the topics and examples to have the readers understand better by exploring the real web site. The comparison of software and hardware that the author explicitly stated the good and the bad of each items is what I like most.

As a handbook, the book covers the issues related to e-commerce from A-Z. This is an especially good strategy as it allows the users to read the most relevant topics without compromising the understanding of a bigger picture. The book clearly defines a target audience -- the less technical reader -- and does not deviate from the chosen level of difficulty in presenting technical material, economic considerations, and implementation issues. While such style of presentation does limit the author in terms of the depth of discussion, at the same time it allows readers to follow the discussion from the beginning to the end. The author has also provided a glossary of terms used in the book which provides a handy reference for a less technically savvy reader. The author is aware that the industry is relatively new and tries to bring her consulting and hands on experience to the biggest possible audience. The book gives basic understanding of client/server technology, database concepts, hardware and software requirements for variety e-commerce projects. Although the depth of presentation of these issues isn't great, readers can gain some knowledge of technical vocabulary and concepts.

I operate a small local Web hosting service and suggest this book to all of my customers. It covers all subject matters in easy to understand format. Anyone operating or contemplating starting an e-commerce business would greatly benefit from this book.

Excellent book! I consult in the area of Internet/Technology start-up development and marketing from the heart of Silicon Valley for clients world wide and read this well written book to glean a deeper insight into the internal workings from a deeper technology perspective (for the nuts and bolts), than what I am usually exposed to and was very pleased by both the material coverage and presentation. I simply do not have much time to read but I took the time to read this important book over a few nights as it directly relates to being successful on the net. Few books I have read have had more direct impact on my overall understanding of a topic. Unlike most books in this particular space that I have skimmed/read, this book is not dry or long-winded. The coverage length of each topic is in relation to its importance and is wide enough to give you the connections between the subtopics to make sense of e-commerce. I have spent many hours looking for a book that covered this topic without taking either the ¿Dummy¿ or ¿Idiot¿ attitude on the low-end or the boring academic text on the high-end. This book exceeded my expectations and I would suggest it to industry professional and first-time netrepreneur alike. In my opinion, this is the ¿Best of Breed¿ book and plan on suggesting its reading in an intern program I am leading at a well-known Silicon Valley business school. If I could only have one book on the topic of e-commerce ¿ this would be it. Good work!

I've been hesitating about putting together an e-commerce site. So many of the books I've bought spent lots of time on HTML and how to post the site but didn't take you beyond that. This book walks you though everything you need to know. It is great. I now know I can have a successful e-commerce business. All have to do his follow the blueprint Ms. Reynolds was kind enough to give me. If you are interested in operating an e-commerce site, buy this book.

I am technically challenged but still needed to understand e-commerce so when I talked to my clients (I'm in sales) I could do so without embarrassing myself. This book is WONDERFUL. It really explains e-commerce, not just HTML (very little of that in the book). For the first time, I really feel I have a grip on what e-commerce can and can't do. Thank you Ms. Reynolds!
